The Rihan Game: Pieces in Motion

Six Hours to Zero Hour

On the Oira of the RES Storm Falcon, Khre’Riov Khevio tr’Shaelon sat perched in the large command chair observing everything.

The fourteen warbirds that had once protected Camelot from attack we now shielded from view by phase cloak and circling the ninth planet of the Avalon system, circling like real birds of prey.

“Khre’Riov,” the operations officer said. “We have received word from the fleet, they will arrive in 2.5 hours.”

“Excellent,” he said with a solemn face. “Open a channel to Ambassador N’Kedre. Do it on a secure channel and feed it into my chambers, ssuej?”

“Ssauj-ha,” the operations office said quickly as his hand began flying over the consol.

A few moments latter Ambassador N’Kedre was on the screen of his desk consol.

“Shaoi dan Llairhi.”

“Shaoi dan Khre’Riov.”

“I am sure au are wondering where we are?”

“The thought had crossed my mind…as well as that of Riov tr’Sorehl.”

Khevio smirked ever so slightly. “I am sure the yy’a io is na pleased.”

“Ie.”

“We will return in three hours, we are merely on a routine training exercise.”

“Mehnka,” N’Kedre said with a nod. “I will explain this to Riov tr’Sorehl.”

~~~
In the great senate halls of the Romulan Star Empire there was a noticeable hum of anticipation. It had been over two centuries since the Empire embarked upon what they were about to do.
Everyone in the room new what was at stake, but they also knew what could be gained.
The hum only quieted when Fvillah tr’Kelna finally took the center chair.
“My fellow Rihannsu,” he said in his mellow, yet attention grabbing voice. “Today we embark on a new age of the chosen. Soon we will step out of the shadows and darkness for the galaxy to see. For we are the Declared, and the Declared are on an errand. And may the elements pitty what ever force attempts to stop us.
N’Kedre closed the communication with Khevio and reached for the glass of ale situated to her left. “What have I become…”
For years she had built her reputation, her credibility from being a voice of reason for alien governments to talk to, and ear to hear them out. She had openly campaigned for the alliance in the Dominion War—and even before that she had pushed for normalization of relations between Qo’Nos and ch’Rihan.
And now look what she was part of. But as she knew all to well, this was the price she paid, this what she agreed to.
7 months ago, Hein’Rhe,ch’Rihan
“Ori’na,” tr’Kelna said.
“Ie.”
The room was lowly lit, and it was dark outside. It had been four months since her eldest and youngest sons had been tried and convicted of treason against their Riov. Three months since her husband had been censured before the entire seiHehllirh (Tri-Cameron). She had been forced to resign her post as hru’llaihri to the Tholian Assembly.
And now one of the most powerful men in Empire, the future father in law of her daughter had come to see her, wishing to discuss reparation.
“I have a way for au and aur House to regain favor with the Empire.”
Her husband Deihu D’Lvon N’Dak, lifted his brows. “Continue, Fvillah.”
“The Lloann’na and the Kll’inghannsu are entering into an alliance with the Dominion to share a system and create an outpost in the Gamma Quadrant.”
N’Kedre lifted her brows. “And they have…kindly asked us if wish to participate in this…alliance.”
tr’Kelna nodded. “We have decided to recall au into active duty as hru’llaihri to ‘Starbase Avalon.’”
“Is that really a wise move,” D’Lvon said knowing his wife’s…reputation. “The more…conservative of the Deihu will be…outraged.”
tr’Kelna grinned from pointed ear to pointed ear. “Ie, but only for show.”
Both N’Kedre and D’Lvon exchanged glances before either spoke. “What do you mean,” D’Lvon finally spoke.
“We have…other ideas in mind.”
D’Lvon had once been a high ranking member of the Tal’Shiar, and for the past 20 years a very high ranking Deihu—he knew what that meant…and so did N’Kedre.
“So,” tr’Kelna said. “If you will agree to part of our…plan, we will reinstall au into the Kiith Mrevhoqq'ghi (Rihan Diplomatic Corps), and au can restore the N’Dak name. D’Lvon will be reappointed as Daise of the Galae Command Committee.”
“I suppose I will be briefed on what I…need to know after I accept.”
“Ie.”
“Very well,” N’Kedre said with out hesitation. “I will do my duty rhae the Empire and to the House of N’Dak.”
“Mehnka.”
As her thoughts coalesced, N’Kedre realized that she had done what anyone in her situation would do—sure her galactic reputation would be changed soon, however, she would restore her house.
She told herself that a thousand times and she’d almost started believing it, and pushed her doubts away into the back corner of her mind.
With her right hand she began tapping up a memo to Riov tr’Sorehl.
~~~

Back on the station, Ssiebh tr’Aieme stood looking out a window. In the annals of the Tal’Shiar and indeed the Empire, what was set to happen in six hours would likely be remembered as a stroke of brilliance—mostly because the only things the Tal’Shiar allowed be remembered were success, but at the moment that was an after thought.

With the fleet hours away, the Vorta becoming restless, and the Federation becoming increasingly entrenched in complacency the time was right.

Pieces were moving, the board was setting up—the game was going exactly to plan, right down to the last detail.

There is an old saying the Romulans have: it’s never wise to play games with those who have mastered the art of deception, would the Vorta find this out the hard way?
