Of all things...

Y'all will appreciate this...

So, I'm minding my own business on Friday, staggering down Manhattan with my Starbucks cuppaccino in hand... The glass door to the Starbucks had *fallen off* while I was sitting inside, scattering glass for about twenty feet onto the sidewalk and street. I figured it wasn't a good place to hang out at the moment, so I launched to the steets. So, I drop off my junk to where my appointment was (I was about an hour early) and head back to the sidewalks on a lovely sunny day to find some lunch, or something to kill the time. There I am, with my Starbucks cuppaccino, walking inbetween the ABC buildings... When a group of girlies in one of the ABC doorways asks me, "Hey! Want some free coffee?" Well, duh! "Sure!" They continue, "We're having a taste testing for some different coffees, and then so-and-so is coming in about forty five minutes to do some interviews." "Free coffee? Okay." In I go, and I taste six limp coffees and mark my little card and give it to the girlies and head back on my way. I find myself some take-out food but am too lazy to walk to the park to eat it, so I'm thinking, "Hey, I'll just go back to the ABC building, right?" So I go back, I sit in a nice cushy lounge, shovel in my lunch, drink the free beverages and snacks they have there, Stossel(sp) shows up and I go do a group interview for 20/20 on... Coffee, lol. I won't tell you when it's airing, because I didn't say anything interesting. You'd like the Folgers representative though... Whenever he was asked a question, he launched into a "Folgers is America's number one coffee in value and taste!" spiel. It reminds me of the Tweaks on Southpark. Folgers came in last on the survey. I was a little late for my appointment, but it was fun. And I was wired. I had a huge headache the next day.

Wow. That must've been a lot of coffee. No donuts to go with it, though, huh?

Yes, but we all want to know if you were wearing a Starfleet Uniform on TV, like the folks in "Trekkies," huh? Huh???

::sits down and switches to the caffeine-free diet Coke::

ABC's "20/20" is conducting a COFFEE TASTE TEST near its studios on the Upper West Side of New York City on FRIDAY, APRIL 8, 2005 AT 11:30 a.m.

The test will go on until 1:30 p.m. Following the test, there will be an on-camera videotaped interview with a group of testers to discuss the results, which will last until approximately 3:30 p.m.

There is the announcement from ABC's 20/20 website. You should keep up with "current events" like this. B)

Actually, caffeine is commonly added to asprin because it *helps* headaches. It widens the blood vessles so more blood can get to the brain.

*Cheap* coffee, however, can cause headaches.

And, as usual, I have Huff's story beat. B) Not only did I meet John Stossel but had dinner with him. He was the keynote speaker at an awards ceremony for my college department. I was getting one of the awards and afterwards the faculty, award recipients, and Mr. Stossel went out to dinner together. He autographed a copy of his book for my dad.

It wasn't televised however.

Oh. Was that the cool part? I thought it was the free coffee.

Who paid for dinner? Did you have coffee afterwards?

lol, no, no Trek uniform... But since I didn't read the 20/20 website before leaving in the morning (Oh silly me!), I looked like my usual caffiene deprived closet selection. You can spot me sitting with the people who *did* read it and were all dressed and primped, lol. Sorry, nothing is worth lip gloss, not even free coffee. I *am* dissappointed that I took off my LOTR ring necklace that day, darnit. So no, no cult obsession in any form. Bad nerd, bad nerd!

The piece, btw, was whether the price of coffee makes a difference, hehe. Folgers and the most expensive brand were tied for last place, beaten by Sam's Club and Nescafe, lol. I can't remember what came first - it might have been Starbucks.

Au know....In my opinion..the cool part of the day would have been the door *falling* and shattering in a billion pieces......

The only guilty pleasure better than breaking glass..is popping those little air bubbles in bubble wrap... B)

But hey...Im in the TV biz, so what do I know :P

Well, technically the California taxpayers paid for the dinner. The bill was paid by the department.

And no, we did not have coffee afterwards. There wasn't a Starbucks open after all the beer we drank.

all I got was $20 to drink. Wait, that's not a bad thing. (I recomend that you find a local testing facility so you can get paid to eat and drink food/liquids before they have a chance to hit the market. (awhile ago (1-5 years ago) I was allowed to test a chocolate bar that is currently on the market. and it's fun to point at new stuff and say that you tried it last year)there are also ones where you look at stuff and give it ratings (commercials and Hallmark stuff) which is easier since all you do is check boxes or click stuff. no movement of the mouth is needed for those tests.
