Battlestar Galactica

Ok, I think everyone who want's to has seen the season finale of Battlestar Galactica. I won't give it away to those who are catching refeeds and watching it on their TIBO's, but I have one thing to say. DAMN!!!! ::thwaps myself for the language:: I enjoyed the entire season, and that cliffhanger had everything to make you sit on the edge of your chair, bite your nails, and had a suprise ending to make you wet yourself. Only bad thing for me is the fact we're going to have to wait till July to find out what happens. Just my fanatic fan critique.

Zaphod,

"You will be assimilated, meow."

I was totally into the whole cliffhanger, but during the final five minutes of the cliffhanger my jaw literally dropped. I NEVER saw THAT coming!

Bring on July!

I thoroughly enjoyed the Season Finale. Although I must admit, I should of seen it coming.

And just think..This guy (Ron Moore) Did Trek!....Heck! Shame on B and B! He'll have his hands full for season two...more epis...means more work, maybe some additional Trek writers may migrate Sci Fi's way.

It was a great season finale!

Possible spoiler here (by the way, what's the BBoard code for the "spoiler" environment?):

My prediction was that Boomer was going to commit suicide with that nuke on the baseship, and the other Boomer would come back with Starbuck and Helo.

I didn't see that coming at all.

By the way, everything in the spoiler is not what happened...

Talk about a sucker punch....WOW!

I was actually in the Republic Sim catching Sci Fi's repeat broadcast on Monday night...I was like .....WHAT? Kind of my same reaction regarding the Doc and Starbuck but a little more intense..

I gotta say...this show is getting some serious teeth...and I like it

Gotta wonder what the future of Helo and Sharon/Boomer (#12?) holds...

Cant wait for next season.........

The entire season was ... how shall I put this … intriguing. I was extremely disappointed, at first, that they mucked around with the characters, and almost refused to watch any more.

I understand the need for drama, and the need to make the characters interesting, but I think they went a little far, in some cases.

Adama and his son, Apollo, are about the only ones that they left alone (i.e. character’s were the same as they were in the original series).

Baltar, I found to be an interesting twist on the villain. The old series just made him evil, and somewhat stupid. The new Baltar is a genious, and has some interesting motivation behind his traitorism.

Colonel Tye, they made an overbearing, rude, alcoholic White guy. The character, is more interesting, I must admit, but I saw no reason to change his race.

Starbuck? Well, let’s see… same personality as the old one, but in a girl’s body. And secretly in love with Apllo? No wonder Starbuck and Apollo were so chummy in the original!

Boomer! Let’s change him to a girl too! And make her Asian instead of Black. And, oh yes, let’s make her a Cylon as well!

The Chief, the President, the President’s assistant, and Helo, I find to be intriguing characters, and may have existed on the original. If they did, they were completely forgettable characters and are now, at least, memorable.

The Cylons? Well, now we have some indication what makes them tick (no pun intended). It always makes good drama to give insight into the reason why the villains think the way they do. And, hey! As long as we’re making changes, let’s make them totally gorgeous, as well!

That all being said, I was completely mesmerized at the directorial style, and the entire “feel” of the production by the end of the first episode, and have watched it closely, since. I caught a rerun of the only episode I missed, last week, and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had cast the actor who played the original Apollo in it!

I do hope that non-science fiction aficionados will take notice of the show, and that the network dweebs, the likes of whom cancelled Enterprise, will not write this off as another flash-in-the-pan sci-fi show.

I’m definitely looking forward to next season.

Adama and his son, Apollo, are about the only ones that they left alone (i.e. character’s were the same as they were in the original series).

Actually, I see some big differences.

The old Adama was a true believer in Earth. In fact, until they found Kobol, he was the ONLY believer in Earth. The new Adama "knows" it doesn't exist, or at least until the latest two-parter he did.

And the old Apollo would NEVER have challenged the Commander, or the XO, or the President. The closest he came to challenging Adama's authority was pointing out a different route to Carilon. The new Apollo aided a known terrorist, pulled a gun on the XO, and basicly told Adama to kiss off when, in the opening miniseries, he took the President's side instead.

I think the new Apollo is more interesting than the old Apollo. Both Apollos took ethical stands but the new Apollo I think puts more thought into his decisions.

Heh, I missed the first half of the season, and i never saw the original, so I have no basis for comparison. However, I will say that I've enjoyed what I've seen so far, and I'm looking forward to July. And unless your not a fan of Stargate, and if you arent, your now on my list, Scifi finally gives you a good reason to stay home on Friday nights.

(Oh...yeah and Fred has that other thing going on...Hmm...Starts with an A...aww shucks, I cant remember)

I don't think any of them existed in the original as real characters. There might have been a chief-like character who was basically an extra, I don't remember well enough. One of the things that makes the new series more interesting (and sophisticated) is the civilian government. The only "civilian" government in the original was the Council of the Twelve (led by Adama). I think their only contribution to the plot was arguing and being wrong.

I cant stand it. Ever since Saving Private Ryan came out every movie director thinks that shaking the camera around and zooming and panning in quick, sudden jerky movements makes it all seem more 'real'. I like the show but the camerawork gives me a headache.

"Blair Witch" was worse.

"BSG" is similiar to the modern police dramas with all that type of camera work, but I know what you mean. I like BSG's dark look and funky cameras.

Even all the character changes dont bother me, then again Im not a classic fan. Overall I just think BSG is pretty good entertainment.

I just saw the finale.

All I can say is . . . oh . . . my. That was definitely the best episode of the series so far! The ending was completely unexpected, and at that point I literally could not believe it (the slow motion helped).

Now I have to wait for the next season opener to find out what happened . . .

Im not a classic fan.

::gasp::!!!

Sacrilege!! Though the early one's were a bit cheesy...they were also all we had back then, in an era moving from westerns to medical/police dramas. Most networks didn't want to take a chance on SciFi back then......ok, well now either..but still....at the time....cheesy as it was...it was cool. Ok...maybe not Boxy and Muffet....I couldn't tell you the number of times I wanted to see the cylons just blast that kid and that robot dog.

But anyway......sit down sometime, watch the original's straight through...<skip the 1980 movie> Enjoy for what it was and where what we have now, came from. I like the new one's too, but don't blow off the old stuff, without giving it a chance to appreciate where what we have now, evolved from.

Besides...who couldn't like Lorne Green?? That was more of trying to pull the Bonanza audience over to the space genre, much as Gene did with the Trek cast. And to keeping the Trekker's happy with John Colikos coming over from a Klingon in Trek to Baltar in BSG.

Anyway....enjoy the classics for what they were.

Hmmmm, someone shoulda proposed a "Texan from the 1800's hundreds, a cop, and a doctor all get abducted by Aliens" and Bill Cosby is in it too, why I dunno because people couldn't have enough of Mr. Cosby back then.

::hides behind a potted plant::

I shot off my keyboard. (Dang fingers) :P Lemme x plain to y'all what I meant. B)

When the original BSG was on when I was more interested in Dukes of Hazzard then sci fi at the time. LOL. Times have changed. And I very much enjoy the new BSG.

Back in the Fall of 2004, I found Classic BSG airing on the Sci Fi Channel, and I watched. Sometimes *cheesey* is better then a *pretty* show.

I speak of the shows with Apollo, Athena, Starbuck, not the ones where its not them, and the Galactica has found Earth, but Earth doesnt know about them, whats up with THAT! No Apollo? And whats Barry Van Dyke doing there? <this must be the 1980 movie aftermath> B)

ROFL! So its not just me with the dog and kid? Oh good. I saw one ep where the kid and the dog stowed away during a sensitive mission and I was like "you have got to be kidding me."

I think I really appreciate the new series because of the old series and vice versa. And I LOVE Richard Hatch's appearances on the new one. I cant tell if hes a bad guy or a good guy - Good stuff!

Definitely room for both new and classic BSG. And I'm still surprised by that ending for this season. Wow.

Now, today when I watch I STILL want to drive the car but Bo and Luke w/out shirts is nice too.........Meeeooow!!!

Scandal! LOL B)

Random side note - with the new season starting in July, I hope that we see more missions done with the Raptor recon ships. I like those little ships. :D
