"Ashes, Ashes" - Part II of II

Lieutenant Junior Grade Garnoopy

Personal Log Stardate 50303.12

“Ashes, Ashes” – Part II of II

Garnoopy placed his hands on Voran’s waist, and picked him up, pushing him halfway up through the hole with no trouble. Voran scrambled up the rest of the hole, pulling himself onto the next deck.

Travis was next, and being the shortest of the group; Garnoopy knew it would be no trouble to lift him through. He picked the Lieutenant up by the waist, noting he weighed around ten pounds less than Voran, and pushed him through the hole.

Dr. Mills was the next to go, the Ensign was taller than Travis by a few inches, but Garnoopy didn’t foresee any problem. He picked Mills up, noting he weighed slightly more than Voran, and pushed him halfway through the hole.

Garnoopy let out a grunt, and looked at the last remaining crewmember beside himself, McLean.

McLean moved next to Garnoopy, and nodded. Garnoopy picked McLean up, surprised that he seemed to weigh, and was the same height as Mills. McLean was pushed halfway up through the hole, and he climbed the rest of the way up with no trouble.

As soon as McLean scrambled up, Garnoopy heard the crewmembers discussing how to get the Klingon up through the hole, without themselves being pulled back down. Garnoopy grunted, bent his knees, and jumped, easily making it halfway through with the one jump, and pulled himself up into the corridor.

He received a surprised look from Travis, and Garnoopy grunted. He had not needed any help getting himself through the hole.

McLean glanced around, “Where’s Voran?”

Garnoopy pulled his phaser rifle off his shoulder, ready to use it if necessary.

“I don’t know, he must have went off when I was pulling you up” Travis said to McLean.

McLean’s com badge chirped, “Sir, I’ve found the exit” Voran’s voice stated.

McLean tapped his badge, “What didn't you understand about wait? We need to stick together, get your tail back here.”

“Yes sir, sorry sir” Voran said through the com badge, already almost back to where McLean was.

The away team began to move forward again, once Voran had arrived back, Garnoopy held his phaser rifle ready, scanning the hallways with its light.

Suddenly, they appeared in engineering. The warp core dark, the panels all offline, chard bodies lay on the ground, dried blood covered the floor.

“My god…” the words trailed off from Travis’ mouth as he saw the damage.

“I do believe I should chastise this man for the way he runs his engineering department.” McLean said, surveying the massive damage. “Keep your eyes open” he said to Garnoopy after a moment.

Garnoopy moved around engineering, unphased by the scorched bodies all around, making continual sweeps with his phaser rifle.

Walking slowly around the dark warp core, Garnoopy saw no movement from any of the bodies, and he continued on. It was not the first time he had seen piles of dead bodies, his own parents had been piled upon other Klingons when he was only a few years old, and he had witnessed it. This was nothing new.
