"Structure"

Tovan looked about engineering, he was happy to see the crew adjusting to the rapid succession of red alert to standby to yellow alert to red alert back to stand by then back to red alert. Black ops. Tovan thought, rapid succession of urgency if it meant anything. As he observed he closely noted all that was occurring in main engineering. People were around; they were ready to do their duties as soon as an order was issued. Red alert was buzzing off on the klaxons. Nerves were tensed, pressure was intense, and stress was an all time high aboard the Manticore. They ... were coming.

It only had been half an hour, or less, since the destruction of another Starfleet ship, the Hawke, and the discovery of a heavy Class X sovereign battleship puppeteering some strange agenda of its own. The engineering crew had put together fail safe devices for diversion if ever needed, they had successfully fail-safe Manticore's internal power structure when the tough gets going, and they had everything in engineering under control.

It had been a peaceful ceremony, save for the fact the away team was nearly blown away, them and perhaps a dozen ships and countless lives. It had been peaceful, also, chasing, stealthily, after the USS Hawke with its mysterious cargo. Until a really huge vessel decided that it was time for the Hawke to be scrapped. It really had been peaceful at times at the beginning of the mission, until the events began popping up. Still, the engineering crew held together.

Now, being pursued, would they stay bound or would they collapse. Tovan knew the engineering crew could hold, but what of some? Some nerves were never meant to be placed in an intensive situation such as this. Some nerves were never meant to be have stepped through the airlock of this ship. But some times they have, because they had proven themselves on the frontlines. But would they hold now? Amidst this truly intensive battle?

Tovan stood by his console, inspecting each engineer that walked by, their faces were hopeful, but who knew of the troubles that they had in their minds. The fear in their hearts? Structure cannot be formed with an individual; it must be formed with a team. Tovan needed all the engineers to be fit and calm, he knew he could trust each and every one of them. But with the recent events that took place, the Junior Lt. Riker's nerves had cracked once, but healed.

Did the doctors give him hope? Faith? Or plain medicine? Did the doctors scare him to death? Or waked him up? Tovan did not know. He knew one thing from all the faces before him.

Structure ...

Structure must be formed with a team, all the faces before him formed the structure and he needed every one to support eachother as the tritanium beams of the ship held against eachother. Every beam strong. Every one strong. The structure must hold. Could they hold it?
