The Shuttle Ride

Duty Log March 13, 2155

Lt.jg Dave Grey

-------------------------------------

They descended through the atmosphere and landed on Cait. It looked somewhat like Earth—not exactly like Earth, the terrain was different—but it had the same Earth-like colours and feel to the planet. Grey liked it.

On the shuttle ride down, he checked over his equipment. Lt. Giovanni had said to be prepared, so Grey went over his bag thoroughly. Starfleet-issue non-flipping hand scanner, Starfleet-issue sample containers, Starfleet-issue molecular analyser . . . he had a lot of equipment, and the bag was a comfortable weight on his shoulders.

The shuttle ride was bumpy, Grey felt bruises forming on his back and elbows. It was a slight change from the relative comfort of the science lab, where turbulence could be ignored in favour of scan results. On the shuttlepod, he tried not to focus on the turbulence and instead closed his eyes.

Lately he had once again resumed regular meditation and martial arts practice. One of his reasons was that the incident with the Orions had left him with the realization he should brush up on his defense skills. Secondly, the meditation helped him deal with the crisis he was going through, it cleared his mind and gave him a way to relax and reflect.

They were invited to dinner, Grey hoped it would be a good but not overly lavish affair. He wondered what Caitians ate.
