"Questionable History" - 50303.08

Lieutenant Junior Grade Garnoopy

Personal Log Stardate 50303.08

“Questionable History”

The data popped up on the panel with the computer’s natural speed and accuracy. Despite that pilots were famed for their amazing ability to handle any situation, Garnoopy was finding it a tad tiresome to hold the Manticore in its orbit, since the ship was so welly maintained, nothing much needed to be done. So, it was time to brush up on his history lessons.

The file was simple about Proxima Centuri, a basic report on a Federation outpost that went wrong, Romulans, biogenic weapons, and a failed rescue mission.

The file began with basic Federation file garble, information on reason for posting the outpost, name, original size, studies, blah blah. Garnoopy read on, hoping to find more relevant information to their current situation.

Tapping, he stopped the scrolling screen with information, finding the beginning to the end of the Lincoln outpost. Romulans, for some reason unknown, attacked the personal there from space. Phasers, torpedoes, and even biogenetic weaponry. The colonists sent out distress calls, which the Federation picked up, and immediately sent a ship, the USS Aries, which was the closest at the time.

Despite extensive search with scans of the planet, the Aries found no survivors. No beam downs could be proceeded with to do more extensive searches due to the biogenetic weaponry the Romulans had used.

The Aries quarantined the planet, and then left orbit. Proxima Centuri continues to be quarantined to this day. End of file.

Garnoopy let out a sigh, Romulans, biogenetic weapons, and the Aries not being able to find any survivors. Something didn’t fit together. Why were they here now? What was their purpose? Just to check if the radiation was still there? They could have completed that by now. So, why was the Manticore sitting here, with seemingly no purpose?

Tapping his counsel, Garnoopy pulled out the USS Aries file, and went through the crew manifest at the time of the visit to the remains of the Lincoln Outpost.

Blinking several times, Garnoopy reread what was listed on. No, it couldn’t be. Could it? Could Commodore Atragon have been the second in command of that ship which was the first to reach the disaster zone? According to these files, he was. And now, Atragon had returned.

Garnoopy closed the file, and looked up at the viewscreen, lost in thought.

Why the Manticore? Any ship, any small simple ship with warp capability could have come here and scanned the planet, found out if it was safe to go down or not, and reported their finding to Starfleet Command. Yet, the Manticore, with the XO of the Aries, now CO of this ship, was here to do something.

Something more than a simple check up was going on here, and Garnoopy knew it.
