How many academy sims..

53 posts in this topic

I'm not going to say how many I went to (be it offical, AA, or for other groups).

My advice on graduating: go to the acadamy, and don't do any tributes to "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" mixed with "Dr. Strangelove." trust me on the last one.

I do take some joy in being a cadet, mainly because I can say I'm the most talkative cadet, with 600-something posts.

remember this, "Any group that will allow Darrik is not worthing joining."

The only thing that seems to be consistent is that asking for a graduation = more sims to graduate :)

Yeah. I got trapped in that when I asked Blu if I could graduate.

::wipes brow::

That set me back.

But you didn't post for a month or so. I think others are taking over.

I dont think cadets should be able to graduate until they learn how to use the search feature on the boards and read the other 50 threads made about this topic before posting a new one :)

But seriously it just depends on whether the GM notices you and whether they decide you're simming well enough to play in a regular game. I'm sure some GMs have a formula or something but its really just a subjective opinion on their part.

Bah, I've tried to search the posts, its a bit of hell when you just want some info. I don't mind some repeats. Its when you have multiple posts at the same time about the same thing that bugs me.

no, that makes to much sense to be true. :o I think Tovan enjoyed the idea because it reminded him of his teacher, who would (atleast I think) call a lazy student "potato."

I think it was around June that Tachyon made a comment that he could trade me to some passing-by aliens for a potato, and nobody would notice the difference.

I think it took me about twenty five... But I didn't care - I was having fun. Probably *too* much fun.

Where did the aliens get a potato?

I recently graduated....It took me 7 sims....and it was pretty tough...but I enjoyed every minute of the academy and plan to attend as many as I can even now that I'm an Ensign.

Here's a simple formula to tell how long it will take you to graduate.

skill - (# of times asked)*2 / (# different hosts*total sims) + (# days between sims * attendence * lateness) / consistency + 3 ^ (begging * complaining)

That sounds about right.....

if I knew this, I would have graduated less than 14 :(

OK I might have a theroy. Do any of you think that age has anything to do with how fast one graduates, if they apply themself?

Hey there,

Does age have a factor on how quickly one graduates? In my view, no.

Does maturity have a factor on how quickly one graduates? Yes.

I have seen people who were thirteen or fourteen graduate six times faster than someone who was much older. A person can be thirteen, yet act in a rather mature manner, and graduate quickly. On the flip side, someone can be in their late twenties, act like a moron and fool only to graduate after attending one hundred Academy sims. :(

I'll have to second that one. Remember, unless you tell the GMs in charge, we have no idea how old you are! We can't see you (the supersecret chat-room/webcam system isn't up yet. Was I supposed to reveal that?).

We can't even test the hypothesis, because we don't have age statistics (beyond the little box that you sign that you're over 13) on all cadets [The ages listed on the boards are notoriously unreliable, as evidenced by the number of infants, toddlers, and 90+ players we've got].

Good point I guess that it would be a maturity issue rather then an age issue, I always use the two interchangably, but I guess that wouldent work in this case. ;)

Speaking from 10+ years of experience, age does not count, but maturity does. I remember a few simmers back in ::coughthatotherservicecough:: who were asked to apply for host status, and when we found out they were only 12, some of us nearly lost our teeth. (Oops...I must be in the 90+ category).

So, maturity, the ability to work WITH a team (both as a *subordinate* and a leader. There are plenty who can spit out orders but not many who can follow them.), and the willingness to learn (which, in essence, is attitude). Some people it takes a long time, some people not so long.
