How many academy sims..

53 posts in this topic

The absolute minimum to be considered for graduation from STSF Academy is three (3) sims. However, graduating at three is extremely rare, and hasn't happened in a very long time. (Travis I believe is the only person I know of who graduated at 3). Your graduation depends really on how good a player you are. Some might take 3, while others take 30.

Here's actually the official answer from the STSF Help Page.

Q: I've attended 3 Academy sims and I haven't graduated! WHY!?!

A: STSF requires that all persons attend a MINIMUM of three Academy games before being considered for graduation. This is a minimum number and does not mean that once a player meets this requirement, they will automatically graduate. Some people are ready to leap right in after their third sim, and some take several months before they graduate. It is very rare for someone to graduate after their third sim. Most people take much longer than three. A simmer can refer to STSF's help documents for hints on how to graduate, or ask a GM how to improve their performance – the GMs will be happy to help! Remember that like any other learning experience in life, people progress at different speeds. Cadets should have patience, and keep trying.

Yeah, I did it in 4. Missed the exclusive "Club of 3" by one sim. ::Shrugs::

3). Your graduation depends really on how good a player you are. Some might take 3, while others take 30.

Can we revise this a little?

I know I'm splitting semantical hairs here, but it implies that people who haven't graduated are 'bad' players. That isn't accurate.

Our game is filled with many conventions and rules, and it takes time to become comfortable with them. How do you differentiate actions from speech? How do you get from one place to another? What is your character allowed to hear and how do you talk to someone in another part of the ship? How do you get something done? What details are you allowed to make up and what details do you have to learn from others? How do you contribute when the action isn't centered around your department?

These skills come from practice, and that's the purpose of the Academy. You can't master these skills unless you play the game, and you won't have fun in an advanced sim until you have a good grasp on them. Once you get to an advanced sim, your attention changes to building your character, and you can't do that if you're worried about how to maneuver in a chat room or if you don't understand your character's job.

Good, creative players could still take many academy sessions to graduate while they learn our online conventions.

So how many Academy sessions does it take? I don't know. It takes as long as it takes. But you're going to have as much fun in the Academy as you are in the Advanced sims, and when you're ready for the next challenge, then you graduate and are put in the other game where there are other skills to learn.

Don't rush to graduate. Graduation is not a measure of "good" or "bad", just of how quickly you can be assimilated. Relax, have fun, and enjoy the game.

took me 11,

i think it'd be much easier if you dcoide from your 2 or third sim what you want to do, i really didnt have an idea before my 6 either engineering or science, nowadays a cadet should never expect to graduate in 3,

I stoped counting after about 24. but I did have fun every time. I was a little surprised that I did make it , I was just have to much fun I gess. Don't think of it as just a academy, think of it as your sim. a place to have fun and take with every body and learn a thing or two. thats what I did. Yes, there are some times when I miss it and I will go back. but its always fun. Just have Fun

does any one know how many academy sim u have to go to untill u graduate?

I graduated in 6 Academy sims.

I like how the sims are set up in order to get you familier with simming. I sim on my advanced sim, and I still participate when I can in the academies. You can always learn in the academy.

You see? Some Cadets may choose NOT to graduate just to stay around and screw with their favorite GMs. :)

Took me 10... And I enjoyed every one. In fact, thats the reason, when I have time, I still like showing up to the Acad. and helping the new cadets... Lots of fun :)

Took me four to graduate.

And to reiterate what the Moose has said: Don't get discouraged if you don;t graduate right away. Just have patience and stick in there.

Ask for advice and pointers, read the Moose Tips', and live and learn. :)

I think it took me 9 or 10. I think the GM's have a very keen sense of who is ready to graduate. For me it was when I least expected it...I've told my graduation story a million times...but I'll tell it again...

I was CSEC in Dac and Atragon's Wednesday Academy...

We had a mission involving some ambassador...My job was to keep the ambassador safe...One of her assistants ends up shooting her in Main Engineering...Regardless...I did keep her off of Dac's bridge, and to my suprise I graduated.

I found my self on Reaent, my lone sim, and I wouldn't trade it for any other ship.

The biggest advice for a new simmer that I can offer is to not create a character to early. The idea of the academy is for you to get a feel for the different positions and even to experiment as being different races...So I would wait till I got onto an advanced sim (In what ever position) to decide what kind of race you're going to bring to life.

Just a penny this time,

Smith

It took me several sims to graduate... somewhere in the high teens, if I remember correctly. I didn't keep count, so I really don't know for sure.

I ended up on a station that keeps getting in the way of everything... ::sigh:: We even moved the station, and we're still in the way! Gaaahhh...

I dont think cadets should be able to graduate until they learn how to use the search feature on the boards and read the other 50 threads made about this topic before posting a new one :)

But seriously it just depends on whether the GM notices you and whether they decide you're simming well enough to play in a regular game. I'm sure some GMs have a formula or something but its really just a subjective opinion on their part.

The only thing that seems to be consistent is that asking for a graduation = more sims to graduate :)
