Introduction- USS Agincourt

117 posts in this topic

STSF Community,

Colonel C.E. Harper and I are pleased to announce STSF’s newest advanced simulation, the USS Agincourt. The USS Agincourt sim is set in the year 2397 (20 years after Voyager) and will run every Wednesday at 10 PM ET beginning March 16th. Details about joining the sim will be made available within the next couple of weeks. Here are some of the features of the sim.

• The ship: The sim is a Prometheus class vessel (as first seen in Star Trek: Voyager’s “Message in a Bottle) and is the ninth installment of that class.

• The command staff: The sim features a unique command staff setup with an executive officer marine who is also the head of the ship’s marine battalion.

• The staff: The sim features the same traditional departments as other simulations, but also as a marine battalion.

• The plot: The USS Agincourt sim is set 20 years beyond the return of Voyager during a time of great political and economic cooperation between many previously rivaling powers. The sim features an epic storyline that will not only explore the bonds of peace, but will see them tested beyond imagination.

• The possibilities: The possibilities are endless for the Agincourt sim. If you’re excited about encountering and being a part of making the future of Star Trek, then the Agincourt simulation may be for you.

We welcome your discussion on this simulation and would be happy to answer any basic questions that have not been answered yet (besides giving away the plot!). Once again, details about joining the simulation will be forthcoming.

Sincerely,

Captain Simeon Davies

Commanding Officer

USS Agincourt NCC-81762

Hi Capt. Davies, Colonel Harper: Just curious.

1.) With the Starfleet Marines, will that extend to a fighter pilot squadron?

2.) Within the Marine battalion, will they also have marine specialists - Medics, Sciences, Engineers, etc?

3.) Will the other ship depts (Medical, Operations) possibly have Marines and Regular Fleet serving together in same dept?

4.) With the signing of the treaty btw Romulans, Starfleet, and Klingons, will we be seeing all three of these races serving together on the Agincourt? Are other races (Bolian, Vulcan, Caitian, Betazed) playable also?

5.) Will the Delta Quadrant be "opened up" for new adventures? Other Galaxies too perhaps?

Thanks.

Just some quick questions...

Who is responsible for the peace treaty? Did the Romulans offer their alliance as a direct response to Spock's effort? Is there more to it?

What is the Technology level twenty years after Voyager? Will there be a 2397 buffer?

Finally will the enlisted officers have command over the Marines or do the Marines not answer to standard Starfleet Officers?

And I think I ask the most important question of all...

Do they have Sesame Chicken in the year 2397?

Kansas,

Thank you for the questions! Please note that I will be leaving some questions to Colonel Harper, as some of these things are her department.

1) There will be no fighter pilot squadron.

2) Colonel Harper can explain the role of Marines on the Agincourt sim.

3) Ditto.

4) Traditional races (for the most part) will be playable, but as always, will be subject to the approval to the command staff. The treaty has been in place for only two years, so I would venture to say "no" to Klingons, Romulans and Starfleet serving on the same vessel. Those two species, however, will be prominent in the sim.

5) Oh, the possibilities... I can't really give you a straight answer without giving away a large chunk of the plot. :P

Hope this helps,

Captain Davies

Dustin,

Thank you for your questions. I will answer them to the best of my ability.

1. The peace treaty was initiated by the Federation and accepted by both the Romulan and Klingon empires. The Romulans motivation for entering the treaty was the fact that they had just emerged out of a nasty civil war. Spock's work did play a minimal factor, though. I can't give away everything without revealing many important aspects of the plot. Hope this helps.

2. EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS: The technology level on Agincourt is NOT all that different from during the Voyager era. Sure, there have been advancements in warp core technology, shielding, medical breakthroughs, etc. This does not mean, however, that everyone has personal cloaking devices, humans can walk through walls, and there are lovely subspace fur coats. A lot of things can and have happened in twenty years, but within reason.

3. The marines will answer to the XO. This does not, however, mean that the Marines can do whatever they want either.

Hope this helps,

Captain Davies

Travis,

Thank you for your question. Sesame Chicken, yes. Sesame Street (in its 428th year of production), yes.

Sincerely,

Captain Davies.

Kansas,

Thanks for your interest. Since Captain Davies has left me two of your questions, let me see if I can answer them both at once.

The Marines will be a separate division reporting directly to the XO, but will be expected to have a variety of specialties. Depending on those specialties, Marines may be placed 'on loan' to regular ship departments when the battalion is not needed for its primary purposes.

So, yes and no. Helpful, aren't I?

Will the Marines be organized similar to ground forces of today? Will there be infantry, combat engineers, medics, armor, intelligence, police, etc?

Dumbass --

To some extent, however due to the contraints of the sim format the options will be limited.

Cougar --

Yes, it will be an open position. As for how many, I imagine that may depend on how many applications we receive, as I think we'd like to avoid having all Marines and nothing else. But as our blank roster stands now, the division will be about the same size as any other ship division.

Hey! On most ships, there are at least 4 open assistant positions per department.

Van Roy,

It all depends on crew applications. The marines do have the highest level of growth potential.

Thanks very much for answers to all questions Capt. Davies and Col. Harper - treaty info, marine detachment, the chicken.

From your answers to all our Marine/Fleet questions - Your Agincourt is reminding me a lot of the "IKS Gorkon" books by Kieth RA DeCandido.

His books center around a Klingon crew. They have all of the regular depts - Medical, Engineering, etc. As well as Warrior Units and also an additional force that from what I gather are basically Klingon Marines / ground forces.

The Agincourt sounds as if it will have the departments we all know and love, with the addition of the Marine detachment serving within those departments when not needed for "marine stuff".

:P

I would love to apply as a Marine. However, I don't want to start on the Agincourt and then go on leave a month and a half later for four months when the semester ends.

I have a question. Will there still be a security department on board and how will you be handling splitting up duties between the two?

I think that the marines will be the "bad boys on call" while the security will maintain the overall safety of the mission. Security will generally handle mainly on-ship security and investigations whilst the marines will be used for special aggressive operations. There are some situations where they might work together. When action is needed on the surface of a planet or in a facility that needs extreme measures beyond that of normal security, they'll be brought in to defuse it before it gets handed over to security for investigation. For example, you go to a planet that has a disturbance, you send security down to secure the area and investigate, it all seems alright before a hostile force tries to take control, the marines are called in to clear the area and eliminate resistance, afterwards security will continue to investigate the disturbance and discover the cause of the hostile force's attack and decide on a plan of action, the marines meanwhile provide security for the security (heh heh) and if an aggressive plan is decided on they will fine tune it based on their combat experience and carry it out.

Well that's my two cents. I could be completely wrong of course! But I like it, gives a balance of power.

Well I found what would be a cool dress uniform for the Marines. Basicly it is the Starfleet uniform from ST2-6 except black with gold trim. This is what the "command" uniform would look like. Replace the standard Starfleet footware with some spit-shined combat boots and I think it's a cool look.

Vex,

Good question. Yes, there will be still a security department on board that will be responsible for ship's security and tactical duties. The marines will basically be half-Marines/half-Flex. It will NOT be a "goof-off" department. In fact, I would imagine the Marines will be the most active department on the ship considering who their CO is.

Hope that helps,

Captain Davies
