Mentally Challenged

"Mentally Challenged"

Log entry 72 - 14: SD 10502.10

At the bridge tapping away at the Operations Console on board the USS Arcadia, Vectra Meriva tried with great difficulty to monitor the Away Team planetside. "Darn it! I'm losing them" he said to himself. Due to the interference from the caves, Vectra couldn't get a good transporter lock on the team. He could hardly hardly even detect their life signs down there.

The Away Team seemed to be going deeper into the cave, and the deeper they went, the more Vectra was losing their signals. Pretty soon, they might be at a point where even communications to the team and vice versa would be impossible. But there seemed to be something else hidden in the cave, along with the Away Team and the Hunley survivors.

Thus having N'Dak and Lo'Ami venturing deeper down in the cave to see what's inside. Vectra sighed. The longer the Arcadia stayed in orbit around this place, the more he didn't like being here. Vectra started to have a weird feeling tingling throughout his mind and body. And it wasn't just the anxiousness of the mission either.

No, it seemed to be like some sort of weird buggy feeling. So far, Vectra has been able to ignore it, using his Betazoid meditation techniques. But, the feeling continued to linger inside of him. Vectra certainly never had this kind of feeling before, and couldn't quite put his finger on what it was. But it felt like tiny little bugs were crawling on his body and mind, making him feel uncomfortable.

Vectra wasn't the only one to feel this. Already, there have been several cases of mental attacks reported throughout the ship. Vectra belived it started with Merri. Just having been brought back to her own mind from Trichon's, Merri had suffered a mental attack. He could hear her cries of help in his mind telepathically. Vectra did his best to calm her, until Dr. Knollwatcher took over.

Apparently, it seemed that her teddy bear turned evil and started to attack her. How very unfortunate. Thought Vectra. But Merri wasn't the only person to siffer from a mental attack. Not long after, he could sense Lt. Fitz suffering from one as well. Shoot, Vectra didn't even know he was telepathic. Just assumed he was human. And then of course, there is also the case with the new helmsman Ensign Semaj.

His optical implant shorted out on him, leaving the man as blind as a bat and unable to perform his duties. Naturally, this began to make Vectra worry a bit. Will he too start to feel the effects and have a mental attack of his own? He certainly hoped not. As that would be quite embarassing, right here on the bridge. He would only have to rely on his Betazoid mind control techniques to prevent that from happening.

Like with most Betazoids, Vectra learned to control his thoughts and telepathic powers at a very early age. So he had alot of experience keeping his mind under control. He would have to cross his fingers and hope it would work until the mission is over and the Arcadia can finally leave this god-forsaken sector in peace. With Ensign Betty now at the Helm, Vectra brought up a second display on Lt. Cdr Lo'Ami's personnel records.

Instructed to find anything in his records pertaining to his ever being on this planet. Vectra scoured as much information on Mr. Lo'Ami as his Alpha-1 Authorisation would allow. Everything from his basic biographical information, right up to records of all hosts of the Lo'Ami symbiot, beginning from Haya'la dating back to the 1700s.

Thirty minutes into the exhaustive search so far provided Vectra with nothing he wanted to know, that is until he came to the records of Lo'Ami's previous host Kurahj. A member of a previous failed expedition to the Kendaru Sector one century ago, Vectra finally found the records he was looking for. "I think I just hit paydirt" he said turning to Commmander Dacotah.
