Throwback

We have been in the Ganltar sector for quite some time by our ship's chronometer. Our attempts to align ourselves with the crippled USS Hood to return both ships to their proper space/time coordinates have failed. The last such attempt threw both ships back even farther away, and a bit further back in time, due to the Hood's changing orientation. It is apparent that any further attempts will also fail unless we can interface with their computer and use our computer to pilot both ships.

All attempts at logging into the Hood's computer to do so have failed. We discovered their prefix code, and I used this to attempt a hack, but they also had a secondary security protocol not mentioned in our data banks and I was forced out. Koralev came up with the idea of masking an executable file as background noise, hoping their science scans will pick it up and inadvertently install it, but that plan proved unworkable as well. The Hood's shields are raised. It is a good bet they know an alien craft is trying to control their ship - which, of course, we are.

We needed another plan, and to formulate that plan we needed information. We pulled up our archived copy of the Hood's mission summaries and crew manifest. Their crew manifest lists a Captain Huff – a direct descendent of the Admiral Huff who debriefed me a couple months ago, Commander Nak, Lieutenant Precip, a half Vulcan Chief of Security, a Horta, a few others, and a Trill science officer named Perfect. Interesting.

As for our archived copies of their mission summaries, combined with the bits and pieces of data we were able to download before being kicked out of their systems, the only thing of note was a recipe for Vulcan flan. What was interesting was what was not mentioned, namely being lost in this sector of space. This omission, combined with several of our crew having contact with the Hood’s descendants, indicates we will be successful in preserving the timeline, we just don’t know how yet.

One thing is clear, however. The Hood will not allow an unknown alien force access to their computer. Since they are about 50 years behind anything resembling an LCARS operating system, it stands to reason that they will know their own operating system and security protocols better than we do. Our prospects for forcing such access are bleak without their help. We will need to initiate contact with them…
