Enterprise Cancelled!

"That just might be ego speaking, but I think we've done a great job. If you look at the performance of [star Trek] Nemesis, you see what I think was a terrific movie that did not perform anywhere near as expected. I think what's been happening with Enterprise." The 2002 movie Nemesis grossed $43 million domestically and had foreign ticket sales of $23 million, the worst performer in the film series." -Ricky Berman

Wow he really is nuts.....

Wow he really is nuts..... :)

Especially because the common denominator of Nemesis and Enterprise was . . . Rick Berman.

The series was getting better this season, and I'm disappointed it has been cancelled. I'm more worried about what shall happen with the franchise now . . . I have no clue whether we should 'take a break' or press right on. I want Paramount to stop turning this into a game of money, power, and licensing rights, but of course that's not going to happen.

Where is Berman's brain again? Nemisis good? I have all the movies on VHS, and I will not let my VHS or DVD player play a movie of such low quality.

That sux. Maybe Sci Fi Channel will pick it up and continue it later down the road. They did it with several other good sci fi series, and made them better. Look at Babylon 5 and Stargate.

Babylon 5?? I think I'm missing something here. What did SciFi Channel ever do for B5 that made it look better? Are you talking about Crusade and the Legend of the Rangers? Naaah, that didn't improve B5. Added to it, okay, but not improved.

Hey there,

Personally, I don't think having the next Star Trek series (or even a rebirth of Star Trek: Enterprise) on the Sci-Fi channel is a bad idea. That really is, when you boil down to it, the proper place. Put it on that network, allow syndication for the rest of the country/world without cable.

For what it's worth, I am sending in a few letters to CBS and UPN. Doubt they will do anything, but at least I know I tried.

au know..I had considered the possibility of ENT moving to Sci-Fi...

Given the impending sunset ride of SG-1...this move could be really beneficial, for both fans and Network suits, alike. Have ENT @ 8p, Atlantis @ 9p, and BSG @ 10p...its a Sci-Fi Slam Dunk.

I hope that the suits at Sci-Fi already have CBS on speed-dial trying to work out the details. While I understand some of your opinions on the first few seasons..I ask you to think back to TNG in the beginning ::shivers:: what if it hadnt made it past Season 3??

::waiting and watching:: :lol:

Hey there,

See, to me, that's the point Star Trek: The Next Generation didn't get it's sea legs until the end of season three/season four. Same thing with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Now, this show is at the same point and doing the same thing...so they pull the plug? Doesn't make sense to me.

I think the critical difference here is the fact Star Trek: Enterprise has been forced to be only on UPN stations where the others were in pure syndication. The horrible thing is that Paramount had announced earlier in the year the show was going to be in syndication for the 2005-2006 season.

None of which I would watch. ::sighs:: There go my sci-fi Fridays.

Seriously, though, Sci-Fi picking up ENT would probably be a good thing for it. But only if they contract for new episodes, and Berman is not at the helm. Just rerunning the currently produced episodes isn't going to help anyone, I think.

Saying Nemesis was a good movie should be sufficient grounds to prove that Berman's insane. I rented and watched it just to finally see my 2nd favorite ST couple finally tie the knot. The rest I could easily have done without.

Hey there,

Sadly, I think the first three seasons of "Enterprise" by Berman and Braga prevented Star Trek: Enterprise by Coto from really having a chance to succeed. Coto's stories were designed for Star Trek fans, pure and simple. Sadly, many long timers had been turned off to the show by the first three seasons. Most didn't have a chance to see the oustanding writing, stories and "TOS" filling in that's happened in Season 4.

I have always enjoyed ENT, even the first three seasons, but I TOTALLY agree with Fred M here.

Season 4 has a LOT of potential with the man - Manny Coto. He is obviously a fan, and wants to share the fun of Trek with other fans. ENT has been "put back on track" with him much like the original movies were with ST2: TWOK, and now that new potential has been cancelled.

I always thought ENT was a cool concept, but with just a little more time? ENT would really shine.

I agree. I think we can all agree ENT concept WAS a solid one. I would like to see it on Sci Fi.

I enjoyed the Babylon 5 series after Sci Fi picked it up. I think they did add alot of interesting element's to it. As for making it better, that was my oppinion. If a sci fi series is done well, it will continue to improve apon itself. I think Sci Fi has done a wonderful job taking "misfit" series from other networks and giving them new life. They did a fantastic job with Stargate. I would love to see them pick up Enterprise and give it some CPR, including getting rid of Berman and Braga.

Sci Fi only showed reruns of Babylon 5, about a year after the show had ended its 5 year run. The only new material they gave us was the "Legend of the Rangers" movie, which was intended as a pilot for a new series, but Sci Fi chose not to go ahead with that. Aside from the usual great dialogue from G'Kar, I thought the movie stunk.

Look at the bright side, if Enterprise doesn't continue, it just means we'll have more creative freedom on Challenger. And I'm sure we'll present the history better than B&B could even imagine...

Do'h where is my brain? I thought they had done a mini series after the Ranger movie. :P Well, I do enjoy Stargate Sg1 and Atlantis. And yep, I agree with you on the history. :P

Indeed, I sent a letter this morning using UPN's Feedback Form that politely requested them to reconsider. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't . . . que sera, sera.

It'd be cool if Enterprise was picked up by the Sci-Fi Channel . . . I don't get it, but I get Space, which has usually been pretty good at airing shows, it has been airing Enterprise's and BSG's current episodes (albeit Enterprise 3 days later, and BSG one week behind). No Stargate: Atlantis until 2006 (but it's on the Movie Network!) :P

Some people get it, some people don't. You could always try something like romance novels and work up to Sci Fi. ;-)

Well if you don't get "it" I think romance novels would just be too depressing.

I was wondering about this, romance novels are weird. I was hanging out in a bookstore with a guy on my course and we noticed that pretty much every type of book got about 2 rows. You had all your sci fi books together, all your crime books bla bla bla, but the romance section was 5 and a half rows! And they all had titles like, "I was taken by a pirate" and all had a picture of a dude with no shirt and really long hair.

How can chicks READ those things?!

Bought a cool Trek graphic novel though, so that eased my horror.

Q: You know how you can tell you are in a feminist book store?

A: There is no humor section.

(Oh, I'm gonna get a warning for SURE for this one! :P)

::And O.o. a Graphic Startrek Novel??

Yeah, not at that bookstore though. In the union there's often a stand or two set up where people sell old posters or dvds. Someone was selling a bunch of strange things. The graphic novels aren't anything official of course. They were made by a guy on the multimedia course about a year ago for kicks but they're pretty damn good. He put a lot of time and effort and seeing the quality, probably cash too into it.

Got each of the pair for a pound though :P

Well by got I mean I was broke as usual, the other guy who was with me said he'd pay for 'em but only if he got to read them first.

*mojo jojo style* cursesssssssss
