Star Trek: Enterprise Cancelled!

After four seasons, Star Trek: Enterprise has reached the end of its mission ...

PRESS RELEASE

UPN and Paramount Network Television have jointly announced that this will be the final season of Star Trek: Enterprise on UPN. [Production will continue until the end of this season, which will finish shooting in March.] The series finale will air on Friday, May 13, 2005.

"Star Trek has been an important part of UPN's history, and Enterprise has carried on the tradition of its predecessors with great distinction," said Dawn Ostroff, President, Entertainment, UPN. "We'd like to thank Rick Berman, Brannon Braga and an incredibly talented cast for creating an engaging, new dimension to the Star Trek universe on UPN, and we look forward to working with them, and our partners at Paramount Network Television, on a send-off that salutes its contributions to The Network and satisfies its loyal viewers."

David Stapf, President of Paramount Network Television, said, "The creators, stars and crew of Star Trek: Enterprise ambitiously and proudly upheld the fine traditions of the Star Trek franchise. We are grateful for their contributions to the legacy of Trek and commend them on completing nearly 100 exciting, dramatic and visually stunning episodes. All of us at Paramount warmly bid goodbye to Enterprise, and we all look forward to a new chapter of this enduring franchise in the future."

A prequel to the original "Star Trek" series, STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE premiered on UPN on Sept. 26, 2001, and aired for its first three seasons on Wednesdays (8:00-9:00PM, ET/PT). On Oct. 8, 2004, STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE moved into its current time on Fridays (8:00-9:00PM, ET/PT). Through its four-year run, STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE produced a total of 98 episodes and earned four Emmy Awards.

I'm not surprised its cancelled...I dont miss it, I never even watch it anymore.

Wait several years and try again with a new series...a decade from now maybe. In a more interesting time period perhaps.

Agreed. I even watched a few episodes this season. While I think that they did an average job with the show, average on a station like UPN is guaranteed death.

Oh, good. Paramount can get their money's worth by now being able to run Enterprise in syndication.

Good for them. (sarcasm)

It doesn't really bother me too bad; I never watch the series.

I am dissapointed in some of you for showing lack of support. Now let's hope Trek doesn't die.

I don't trust B&B to run Star Trek like it should be ran, so if they are the ones that must run it... I'd rather just not have the Star Trek series on television.

Yeah, exactly.. it's too bad because it getting pretty interesting.. but the B&B twins really did kill Startrek. I'm not too sad it's gone.. and I hope that Paramount will wait maybe a few years or a decade before they come up with another Startrek series.

Huzzah!

Now maybe we can start working to get some real Trek on the air!

ENT was an interesting concept doomed to failure from the start by horrific planning and poor execution. The concept might be revived somewhere down the road, but I hope someone else plans it.

ENT was a good idea in theory but Berman and Braga screwed it up. Manny was making it awesome this year, too.

if they wait a few years, that may be appropriate planning time to come out with something more satisfactory

::with cheerful smile:: they should take a break, they need better ideas

Hey there,

Sadly, I think the first three seasons of "Enterprise" by Berman and Braga prevented Star Trek: Enterprise by Coto from really having a chance to succeed. Coto's stories were designed for Star Trek fans, pure and simple. Sadly, many long timers had been turned off to the show by the first three seasons. Most didn't have a chance to see the oustanding writing, stories and "TOS" filling in that's happened in Season 4.

For me, being the age I am, this will be the first time in my recent memory there hasn't been Star Trek on the television to watch and enjoy (to some degree or another). I think it's sad that CBS and thus Viacom did not give Coto more time. Many of the episodes slated for the remainder of the season really look oustanding.

As for a break from Star Trek, I have to disagree. What I think is needed is the immediate retirement of Berman and Braga. Neither were supposed to head the show and every product they've had direct (and I mean direct) control over hasn't been a real success.

I sincerely hope this isn't the end for the franchise. I doubt it will be, but...it does need new direction. Given what I've seen, Coto would be a great fit.

For what it's worth, there are several campaigns now actively attempting to change CBS' mind. I think anything is possible...who knows, ratings for the rest of the season might cause a reevaluation. MSNBC has a poll running on the topic, if you'd care to vote in it.

Hmmmm, not much of a surprise really. A pity though, looked like it was getting a second wind.

Ironically a non-Trek community that I am a member of, well they are preparing for war. I say we swamp Paramount's offices with letters (Mircale on 34th street moment), demanding B&B's be fired. That Enterprise be given half a season, off of UPN sololy, and then can it, if it is still not flying.

Blame it on my other hobby.

That sux. Maybe Sci Fi Channel will pick it up and continue it later down the road. They did it with several other good sci fi series, and made them better. Look at Babylon 5 and Stargate.
