OK, I'll tell the story again.

I "forced" my dad into going to a local convention with me. What do I mean by local? I mean it was within walking distance of both our houses so no problem with parking, etc. It was $10 bucks to get in, although I was able to sneak in for free while the Klingon guards weren't looking - and yes, the "security guards" were simply big guys dressed as Klingons. The same convention organizer also had an adult film star convention that evening, and the $10 enterance fee for the Star Trek convention got you $10 off at the other convention in the evening so the audience was a healthy mix of Trekkies and perverts. :)

What was really amazing was the number of extras who had one or two lines in one of the TOS episodes and they are still trying to sponge money off the experience. My dad met one that he had a crush on growing up - not from Star Trek but from the movie South Pacific. He told her about how his sister had to drag him to the movie, which was considered a "chick flick" for the times. She said "Dragged?" His reply to that was "I was 10. I wanted to see Sands of Iwo Jima."

While he was doing that I got to meet Gates McFaden, Dominic Keating, and Majel Barrett. I asked Majel why Picard never changed the computer's voice since it is also Lwoxana's voice and she was so zonked out on valium or whatever she was on she didn't even understand the question until my third attempt at asking it. She referred to Starfleet as "those boss people". A regular on 2 different serieses, and bit parts on all the others except Enterprise, Gene Rodenbury's widow, and she couldn't even remember "Starfleet". :D

After my dad saw me debating with Majel and saw my "Ferengi School of Business" bumper sticker he forced me to watch Galaxy Quest that evening and asked that I not bee seen with him in public. He made this request again when we heard on the radio that this mental health clinic was looking to hire linguists trained in Klingon (The clinic later reversed that decision.) and I mentioned I was a Vulcan Chief Engineer on a Klingon ship.

Hey there,

As I'm certain many will answer, yes...been to many conventions over the years. Heck, this group has it's roots from a convention. :D

Largest one I've gone to was the 30th Anniversary Convention in Huntsville, AL. Outstanding event and ended up being (according to later reports) one of DeForest Kelley's last appearances (believe he attended one more after that).

I've been a Trek fan for 16 years, and I try and get to a convention every few years or so but it depends on location and cost.

My last one was 2001 in New York, the weekend before Monday, September 11 (still thanking my lucky stars I decided not to stay in New York to see the sites. :D)

A 1993 con is a personal highlight - DeForest Kelley was a headliner, and I consider him "da bomb". Not only did I get to meet him, and have a short conversation (in which I was totally out of it with a bad case of hero worship - he seemed to understand me though lol) , he gave me a hug. :)

Sasbas is right though - unless you are near a major city, where most of the cons come too, it's hard to locate one or even get to it.

I would say my general con expereince is good.

Paramount owns an amusement park about 20 min away from me. They used to have Klingons and Ferengi walking around but no more.

They still have TMP movie posters and a replica of the NCC-1701 though.

I have been to one convention, when I was 9 and... all my life my mother says "Don't be afraid of Klingons, they're not real" and...

Here comes a Klingon looking angry and he starts asking me questions and I FREEZE...

And after that I was pretty much like WOW MOMMY DID YOU SEE THAT? HIS TEETH WERE SO COOL... because I was freakishly terrified.

The End.

Well, as I live near the Las Vegas Hilton, I attend conventions regularily. But none has been as good as this....

Closer than Vegas is a Star Trek simulator. No lie. You go in groups of 6-12, depending on what ship you wish to be on. There's even a Voyager, which I really enjoy. In your groups, you choose a Captain, #1, Helm...and so forth. Though, I have grown too old to attend the simulation again, it has been fun and probably was my start into Star Trek.

Oh yeah... I call dibs on Captain! :-P

I never been to a straight Star Trek Convention although I have been to a Sci-Fi convention in Vegas which featured a big section of Star Trek. I still say the coolest thing I saw Star Trek wise was Star Trek the Experience. Great show, excellent actors wandering around afterwards... (I am still laughing at the Ferrengi who tapped me on the shoulder when I was looking at the Star Trek plush dolls and he picked up the Spock one and goes... "Yeah, this is a tickle-me Vulcan. Tickle it today and in seven years, you get a laugh.") However! The coolest part of Star Trek the Experience is................... THE RESTROOM!!!

I am so not kidding either. Totally made of Chrome and Steel with computers telling you your excrement content and the weather... LOL

Screw that. My place is WAY better. They now have 72 hour mission, in which you don't sleep, just like the real thing.

And here's a clip from it!

Captain! There are klingons off the port bow!

Whu...what are you talking about? Why'd you wake me up?

Sir! The Klingons!

Ah screw the klingons, get me some coffee.

*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!*

I went to conventions when I was younger. I even had a uniform!

Now I would probably only go if I was interested in buying merchandise, which I'm not...but the conventions are packed with all kinds of merchandise for sale.

I went to the Star Trek Experience...it was okay. It would have been more fun if I was with another Trekkie, rather than my fiance, who found the entire thing quite strange.
