Game simming?

Have any one of you ever heard of a simming group that used games? Such as Elite Force? For example the Elite Force map would be the same every week but would have diffrent events in it. So you download it and everyone gets on the server and 1.5 minutes into it a romulan decokes off the port bow and you have to send a away team to "kill" the ship. (it would run on a system of dammage) You could create the ilusion of warp by haveing whilte lines move quickly by the ship. If you juped out during warp you died... I believe my example is as throughough as it's gonig to get. So, I just wanted to know what everyone thought. Not nessesaraly with Elite Force, but it would work, and you could actualy see it. The stsf simulantions are quite fun as is though, so even if there was another group that did this I would stay in stsf. I would just ponder joining the other as well. I think this would be an exelent progresion for simming.

Do they do sims with the Armada game? (how could you do that) oh well, ok, thank you. I will take a look at there site and see what they are. I just thought it would be a cool idea just take a look at these pictures. It's of a Starbase on a Astroid, I just thought it would be cool to have romulans, or klingons, to battel agenst.

Heres the main landing pad, it's supost to have that glare from that angle, it's made to just look cool.

These shuttels can be made flyable with about 10 minutes of work, and they can shoot photons and phasers. The photons do run out and you have to load more from the cargo bay. You could make it in about 10 more min so that the shuttel could be dammaged and even exsploed.

The warp core, this can power all the systems on the Astroid, when it's dammaged stuff does realy start to run out, and when the emegency power runs out everything shuts down a quick fix could make it so al the lights and panels go down untill fixed. (could be fixed by getting certain tools and working on it.)

I don't know I just thought it was a good idea.

(going back to being Vulcan)

By the way if anyone wants the url to download the map it's at http://eliteforce2.filefront.com/file/Asteroid_Base;34623

But you've already got the best visual aid in the world... your imagination. :)

thats what i love about simming. You don't need such and such a graphics card, and to buy this game and this system and all that gamer mumbo-mumbo. I'm not saying ANY of that is bad! Its great, but its also fun to use you're immagination. To start to actually feel what you're character does and so on and so forth. Thats what i like about simming, cause its as close to a gamer as I get. :D

Indeed. I am not a good gamer. I'm competent at games such as EF and Armada, but I'm not proficient. I love simming because I love to write, and simming is just cooperative online collaborative writing in real-time. :D

For example, in a sim I can simply type ::reroutes power to tactical systems:: whereas in a game I may have to do several complicated things to accomplish that. Plus you couldn't have the level of humour such as having your console suddenly trigger a red alert, or Klingon opera, or an autopsy documentary . . . :)

I'm not saying that your idea isn't a good one . . . if you have a bunch of EF or Armada enthusiasts with nothing else to do, go for it. It could work.

<going to human>

Don't get me wrong, I like simming this way more. I just had never tryed it the other way and wanted to try it if there was one out there. (I guess there's not for EF, wich is fine) I just was wondering. I defently like the stsf sim more though if for no other reason bcause you (any person) can imagine what it looks like in there favorite way. <When I think about how it looks I allways see Voyager...>

GOING BACK to Vulcan FOR GOOD!

There are probably some EF or Armada gaming clans out there that do something similar to this, try searching on Google or looking around the Internet. If you don't find anything you can always start your own :D

I started out on line about a year ago. My first game was Star Trek Elite Force 2 (good game btw). At that time I ran into gaming clans that played on line.

Now, I totally understand what Tuvok is getting at : use a "live action" game for simming purposes.

Gaming clans kind of do that anyway - ranks are in place for members, practices set up, free game time, and u get together, play, have fun, and use imagination.

But as for using a game for simming on a regular basis? A FPS game like Elite Force wouldn't quite cut it.

A ship tactical game like Starfleet Command 3/Armada/Bridge Commander and maybe even the upcoming MMORPG for Trek would work even better. You and peeps could get together and game for a night and then recount experiences in logs.

Now, I have to admit, text simming like STSF offers WAY more imagination possibilites, and a "brain" workout, then on line games. :D Lotsa fun.

However - Nice idea there Tuvok.

EDIT: Oh thanks Tuvok for the EF2 map link - I downloaded it. Looks cool. LOL

Uh, OK, with Tuvok's third picture, why the heck would someone build a warp core inside solid rock?

If you're using someone else's program, you're limited by the possibilities that the programmers thought of when they designed the game. Even games that have scripting languages have some limitations in what their game engines can do. And, once you're getting that advanced, making a simple plot twist could mean hours of programming. There aren't any such limits on live-action simming.

I wish to see the update for STSF siming, not sure how you could improve it. Side note... the info on the startrek game came out. It would be a (diffrent not nessesaraly better) way to sim. If you want to see the info go to http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/gami...ticle/6632.html

:P Now we know why they've been so....delayed...in giving us back our chatrooms.... :P

The Trek on line game would offer a simming opportunity yes - but it would be a different simming structure.

I have explained my experiences here at STSF to my family/friends as - "It is like reading a novel, but you are a character taking part in the action." And of course, we all employ our imaginations to do this and any character logs.

The On Line game will provide a role play experience - with video graphics replacing 70% of imagination. Imagination would still come out in character logs on forums and such.

Now as an on line gamer in the past (EF2), I am of course going to check out the MMORPG when it is available.

But, I also enjoy reading my "novels" here every week. :P

::nods:: Well put. I think that's why even with the advance of technology, simming in general will continue to have a significant and stable player pool. :P

::nods:: Likely until we reach a point of truly immersive VR, which enables a user to interact naturally with the entire environment, and to add items into the world in realistic (or not-so-realistic) ways...

...at which point, is there going to be any point in simming, since I think I just described a holodeck?
