Re:simming

Hey all i was reading the last topic from Saya who has decided to drop out because she had a bad first sim. As to there being only one GM in a sim yeah ok it does happen, but maybe to help slove the problem of the GM's being to busy to help maybe they could start giving some of the more senior roles to higher ranking officers. For example, Captain and first officer instead of the GM's filling those spots they could be given to officers that have being simming for a while (Eg: A lieutant or higher could take the captain position, and same for the XO position),and yes i remember that in an acadmey sim we are all cadets. But then the GM's are free to help new cadets and all they have to do is just keep the sim on track and maybe throw in a few surprises for fun. Then it also gives some of these higher officers a bit of a go at command.

Food for thought

Actually, that already does happen sometimes at Academies, where some of the higher ranking players get to play as MCO and MXO.. :D

it's sad that they would consider not coming back after one sim i feel a person needs more than just one sim to get a feel for how the sims work. if at first you dont succede try try again... :D

Actually it happens quite often. There was one time recently when I was made CO with full ACTION rights. That was fun. And then there was the time when I was CO and I got to relieve LoAmi (at least I think it was LoAmi, it was a while ago) from duty for talking back to me. I gave him the full security escort and everything. And then there was the time I took charge as Acting XO and got to relieve Atragon from command. That was fun too. And then there was the time I was XO and had to take over as CO because the CO died in a Klingon attack. And then there was the time that...

Well, anyway, it does happen quite often. The GMs are ultimately responsible for what happens in the sim so they need to put people in the MCO and MXO and even SGV (Special Guest Villan) roles they are confident in, and it doesn't always depend on rank because not all GMs/Advanced Sims have the same criteria for promotion. A Lt. on one sim may have the abilities of a LtCdr. on another. Usually the Academy GMs put people into the MCO and MXO ranks they have personally observed simming and are confident in their style.

And then there was the time that you were a mutant tribble who attacked my team . . . that was fun :D (And the CO was concurrently hunting the other team).

Oh, yeah, forgot about that one. Even the Tribble Goo was able to cause some mischief. :D

Heh usually when a Non-GM player is an XO or CO...people usually die....or is that just when N'Dak's MCO or MXo...

I know that record is like XO: 9-36-2 and CO is like 4-16-0....heh

One might add that tolerence to chaos is also a test of the academy. ;)

I take the comments on what it is like to be a newbie and how we can help very much to heart - It is always good to hear the new player's perspective, since for many of us it has been a long time since we were new, lol.

But I have also noticed over the years that sometimes people who like a very structured and orderly game, don't always like online roleplaying. I have a very close friend in real life who tried simming with us online, but the unpredictability, the slow responses to her needs and statements online caused her to get so aggrevated that she eventually left the game, finding the resulting migraines not worth it. (And she probably had the most attention I could possibly give a player, lol... It still didn't provide enough order).

And that's just the way it is sometimes. We do the best we can, we stay as open to feedback as we can, since it is our mutual goal to provide the best experience we can, but sometimes it's just not what someone is looking for.

Personally... I love chaos. My world is only as structured as absolutely necessary to function. I like online roleplaying. :D

Silly question - CO and XO stand for the GM's - Commanding Officer and Executive Officer of a sim.

What is the "M" for? The Mission Commander or Mission Executive?

brad brings up some good points, but like everyone has said - all that is pretty much done generally in the sims now. If I'm having difficulties, a GM or senior player helps me out.

The sims are a lot of fun. I just love never knowing what is going to happen or how peeps are going to react.

I think having a CO and XO and MCO and MXO (M=Mission) in the same sim confuses people unnecessarily. It would be easier on the cadets if we simply had CO and XO and just understood that sometimes they won't be GMs.

It's not always high-ranking players though. In my last sim before graduation, Sketti made me MXO, as a test, I think.

Oh yeah. One month after my graduation, Fred made an MCO in one Academy. Totally bombed that one.. I sucked. Plus, we got eaten by the Pandarians.

That's ok, Seiben. When I was MXO, my entire crew was killed by Jem'Hadar disguised as furry creatures.

I was XO once...I think we actually lived. Though I had to keep asking the GM what I was allowed to do. I was afraid I might take advantage of one of the "CO only" powers.

I was afraid of that too...but I didn't have to worry about it once Sketti died in that sim...the only thing I couldn't do was use ACTION statements...everything else was fair game since we had no CO.

Pandarians.

Whoa...there's a name I haven't heard in a while.

Oh, Freddy! What happened to our furry friends?
