It’s amazing how moments of stress can recall fond memories to mind. This was one such occasion. With the ion storm passed Aegis, GromVik was reminded of another storm that he encountered just a year before. While working for the Corps, GromVik encountered an old friend, Commander Jami Farrington of the USS Manticore. Providence had brought them together. Jami was barely starting to recover from a traumatic experience that had cost her a limb. Yet, GromVik felt he was able to minister to her needs so that she would have the courage to face Atragon, her beloved.

 

Time had flown quickly between that day and this day. GromVik was no longer working for the Corps. He was transferred back to Sky Harbor Aegis for a brief time before being reassigned to command the USS Lewis, Rear Admiral Meve’s flagship for the Cardassian Sector. This was his first command since leading the USS Cameroon a few years previous. Somehow, in the middle of all of his duties and responsibilities, though, he found time to write to a friend. And this is how it went:

 

“Dear Jami,

 

 

I regret that we have not spoken for almost year, but I pray you’ll forgive me. You know what it’s like to be a Starfleet officer and all of the time that it requires of me. I’ve recently been reassigned as Commanding Officer of the USS Lewis, Rear Admiral Meve’s flagship for the Cardassian sector. It’s different kind of work, but at least I get to be around Aegis again. I don’t feel like I could ever tear myself again from that station. But, even I am not naïve enough to think that she’ll be around forever.

 

I have been thinking about you recently and our encounter on Starbase 317 just over a year ago. It meant so much to me to see you again. I have to admit, I was caught a little off guard from everything that was going on…but, I’m glad that I was there in your hour of need. I hope you have continued to grow stronger daily and that your relationship with Atragon remains better than ever.

 

Let me know if you are ever in the area. I should like to see you again, even if it be only a few minutes. Give my regards to your husband. Finally, if you should ever need anything, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I am indebted to you for your uncompromising friendship.
