A Trip Down Memory Lane...

=/\= Down Memory Lane =/\=

- A joint log from Warped To The Core Productions -

Merri slept, as much as she could be considered to be sleeping in her disembodied state. It was so odd that she could look out through Trichon's eyes, and hear his thoughts, but be unable to communicate with him. The bond that linked them together was still strong in her mind, but she couldn't seem to make him aware of her trying to communicate. Maybe telepathy required some kind of energy that was provided by a living body? She dozed, and woke, dozed again, and woke to find herself standing in an odd sort of place, where the surroundings seemed to mutate and shift as she looked around.

Out of the haze of the surroundings a small boy stepped from nowhere and walked a circle around Merri a few times and looked at her, his head cocked to one side. "You don't belong here."

She blinked in surprise, and tilted her own head as she looked at him. "No... I don't belong here. But I don't know how to get back to where I do belong."

"Where do you belong?"

"In my own body!" Merri exclaimed. "I don't know how I got here, but I want to go back." A vague thought surfaced... something about clicking her heels together three times... but it made no more sense than being trapped without her body.

The boy looked up at her with a curious grin, "Sometimes to go back we have to go forward. Have you looked for a way out?"

"I don't even know where to look," said Merri. "And where did you come from, anyway? How did YOU get here?"

"I've always been here."

"Oh...." Merri sighed to herself. "Do you know the way out?" she asked.

The little boy pointed over towards the horizon. As he extended his hand a door appeared in the ever changing landscape. "That is the way."

Merri walked toward the door, almost afraid it would vanish before she got there. She glanced quickly back over her shoulder to see that the boy was following her. They got to the door, and an old-fashioned handle appeared on it. Merri reached out and took hold of the handle and opened the door.

When she walked through the door she was in what looked like a schoolroom. The walls covered in the simple decorations that appealed to children. The young boy that was following her looked around the room and pointed towards a child in the corner.

Merri looked at the child. It was a very young child, at that age where it was hard to tell if it was a girl or boy.

The child look liked it had been crying. Sniffling and sobbing to itself. When Merri turned and looked out the window she saw other children laughing and playing.

Dropping to her knees near the child, Merri reached out a hand sympathetically. "What's wrong, little one?"

The child turned around looked at Merri, "The other kids won't play with me. They think I am weird."

"Why would they think that?" she asked in surprise. Although the child looked too young to have such complex thoughts. But maybe that was why he --?-- was weird.

The child rubbed the tears away from his eyes and looked at her with "Because I am smart. They don't like me because I know things they don't."

Merri sat back on her heels. "There is nothing wrong with being smart or knowing things," she said, "as long as you don't use those things to hurt other people."

The boy that was guiding Merri opened another door and motioned for her to follow, "Hurry, we can't stay long."

Wondering what the hurry was, she followed the boy through the new doorway.

The setting had changed once again. This time the room looked very familiar. It was the dorm rooms at the academy.

Merri looked around again, wondering and wondering some more what this was all about.

Suddenly the door opened and a couple stumbled in. Both seemed to ignore Merri and the boy. The two were kissing each other. Their hands all over the other. It was then that Merri got a good look at the man.

She could feel her face heating up with embarrassment. She'd known Trichon had been quite a womanizer, even up until recently, but why was she being exposed to this? It had to be some memory of his, if she was still trapped in his mind... but why THIS memory? She turned to the boy. "We're just... passive observers here, aren't we?"

"They only see what they want to see, and at the moment they see nothing but each other," the boy could see Merri's reaction, "This moment in time, it bothers you?"

Merri knew her face was deep red. "A little," she admitted.

The boy looked upon the couple as they started removing clothing. "If it bothers you we can move on. Besides, we shouldn't stay in one place for too long."

"I think that would be a good idea," said Merri, and turned to see where the next door would be.

A door appeared on the opposite side of the room. The boy walked over and opened the door and showed Merri through. As they walked through they appeared in the ME of the Arcadia.

"But..." Merri started to say, and then changed her mind and shut up, wanting to see what would happen.

The boy stood in the center of the room. "This is my favorite place in his mind. Its his as well."

"It's one of my favorite places, too," said Merri. "But... why are we here?"

"I wanted to show you something before you left," the boy grinned and pointed to the warp core. It was glowing with a brighter blue glow and was humming with an increased speed. "Something is happening to him."

"What's happening? What do you mean?" Merri was confused, and a little alarmed.

"Something has awakened in his mind. Something he isn't ready for," the boy pointed at her "You must help him through it, otherwise I fear what will happen."

"Me?" Merri was startled. "I -- you mean our bond?" she asked.

The boy nodded, "Yes. He is awakening to his gifts earlier than I had hoped." He walked over to the warp core and ran his hands across it. The thrum of the core continued to increase, "Remember what I have said to you."

"We need to get more training," said Merri. "Both of us. But first I have to get back to my own body," she added sadly.

The boy frowned, "I cannot do it for you. You must will yourself back. Use your feelings for him and the bond should return you where you belong."

"I don't know how..." Merri started to say, but then somehow she felt her emotions spreading and warming. She immersed herself in that feeling and in her sense of Trichon within her own mind. "Oh..."

The boy grinned, "You begin to understand. I must go now And you must return yourself." A door of light appeared and the boy began to walk through it,

Light and warmth swirled through and around Merri as the room shifted away from her. She was back in her cozy corner of Trichon's mind, and seemingly no time had passed at all. But now there was a silvery thread that began somewhere deeper in his mind and went past her and outward. She began to follow it.
