Hello and welcome to STSF!

Your first stop should be the help section, which explains the mechanics of simming. Be sure to read the introduction through the frequently asked questions list.

Your next stop should be the Tips from the Moose forum, which has lots of good advice on how to make you a better simmer.

Then, you should look at the schedule and find an STSF Academy sim that you can attend. Show up in the holodeck room about 10 minutes before the scheduled time, and follow the instructions from the GMs (game masters) on how to get a post aboard the ship. Then, use the simming skills you learned in an academy game. If you want to see how a sim functions without playing, it's ok to watch an academy too.

If you have any specific questions during a sim, you can ask the GMs via private message; if you have any questions outside of a sim, you can post to these boards.

Hey and welcome. Like LoAmi said, there is the help section which tells you exactly how everythings done on STSF, then go to an academy and request a post. Again welcome, have fun and hope to see you in the sims. :D

Hi and welcome. Going to the Academy will help you out a lot. If you have any questions, they will help you there. Go to every one of them if you can and learn all you can from them. I learn that each GM is a little bit different from the other and have there own way of doing things. You will learn a lot from each of them. I know I did. And all ways have fun. :D

One correction: You no longer have to sign up at startrek.com in order to use the STSF chat rooms. It looks like the FAQ is outdated.

Thank you all, I'm also wondering, if I have to leave an Academy Simulation early, will it still count that I went?

Hey there,

Whenever you attend an academy, it is always best and it is highly recommended that you attend for the entire sim.

What if I can't because some of these run for very long and it's already so late at night that it's hard to stay.

Hi there,

All of our simulations are an hour long, the earliest one starting at 9 PM ET (Tuesdays), running to 10 PM ET. I would talk with the individual GMs of the Academy that you attend and let them know your situation so that they can plan around your leaving early.

as for the time thing, if you can find an hour to WATCH a canon trek episode...you can take the time to make you're own! Don't worry about getting started, if you show up at the academy, there will be GM's, other cadets, and returning graduates who are always eager to help you!
