Out of any of the regular Star Trek crew members, (Excluding Q or other such omnipotent beings) who would you choose to Captain your vessel. I will keep a tally of the votes and since I am starting things off, I will give my pick.

TALLY: 1 for Spock

Spock is simply the Uber-Choice for a Captain of any vessel. Cool and logical with enough experience to use intuition when neccisarry. His demeanor gives others strength and his intelligence can lead him out of any circumstance.

This is a really hard question...

I'd pick Picard (proven record), Data, or just about any engineer you could drag away from his engines long enough to sit in the Captain's chair.

Captain Calhoun of the USS Excalibur is who I want in the centre seat. He has that flair for the dramatic that I would find refreshing.

I would have to go with Riker. He has alot of kirk and picard in him and thats what would make him a good one. He can walk the walk and talk the talk and get the girl all at the same time. :D

I vote for Captain Sisko. The others are starship captains. But Sisko also has more of a soldier mentality.

I actually would have Savik from ST's 2,3,and 4. I missed her character when Final frontier came out. I wish they'd have developed it more. She was a great officer, (except when she gave her phaser to an untrained civilian). :D

Zaphod,

"Meow, I say meow boy."

Dr. Leonard H. McCoy.

As a doctor, he would most likely command a medical or research vessel.

I voted for Gordi. He was always one of my favorite, underdeveloped characters. He had so much potential that wasn't tapped, he could have his own series.

That, and he always points out the good reads on Reading Rainbow.

You know, I agree that Dr. (Or Admiral) McCoy would make an interesting choice as a Captain. I think the only problem with him is that he takes his decisions purely on Medical and Emotional judgement. In the same light, that is why I wouldn't want a pure engineer as a Captain as I believe they wouldn't be willing to push the ship that extra mile... Especially if they are not the ones handling the engines.

Two points. First, the character of Savik was not pure Vulcan. She was half Vulcan, half Romulan according to the Star Trek 2, 3, and 4 novels. In the novels, she was constantly fighting her Romulan side, even havinig a romantic relationship with David Marcus. Second, I'm not talking actresses here. I agree Kirsty Ally didn't pull out an oscar performance, but she wasn't that bad. Robin Curtis played a much cooler Savik. She also returned to Star Trek several years later to play a Vulcan terrorist in Next Generation. I'm talking characters. I loved the way the writers developed her character in the novels and movies. I just wish she would've been included in Star Trek's 5 and 6. I would have Savik as my captain and chose her several times in my Starship Creator cdrom.

Zaphod,

"Meow is not just another four letter word."

"Neither is purr."

Have you watched Kirk in action??? The man had no clue what the prime directive was....as was so wonderfully put in STVI

Kirk: "You're [spock] a great one for logic, I am a great oen for rushing in where angles fer to tred."

Kirk. He'd be a cheap date. One cup of coffee or a green hair dye job and he's yours.

I eventually cast my vote for Riker, but I went back and forth for a while between Riker, Picard, and Janeway. Sisko and LaForge also kept sneaking back into contemplation, even after I thought I'd ruled them out.
