Ok, Daryus (on the Qob) is half Caitian with a human name (thanks to his mom), so it's pronounced differently.

Light D (instead of the tounge at the tip of the mouth, it is pronounced with the middle of the tounge at the roof) - a (ah) ry (rryy) - us (dragging out the s)

Daryus Williams (Challenger) Da-ry-us Wil-liams

"Qob" rhymes with "lobe," with a K sound. It means "danger" in Klingon. (It does NOT rhyme with "cob," as in "corn on the.")

And that's all I have to say about that. ;)

Samuel:

"asked of God"

I'd actually suspect (along with many commentaries) that 1 Samuel 1:20 gives an incorrect derivation of the name Samuel, which, more accurately, means "God has heard" (Shama-el) or "One who is from God" (sheme'el), depending on how you want to parse it. "Asked of God" is more likely a derivation for the name "Saul," possibly indicating that the birth story is attributed to the wrong character!

As for pronouncing my character name (good luck):

Ar-fa-zahd Lo-Ah-mi

As described in a previous post, it's derived, with simplified spelling and pronunciation, from two sufficiently weird sounding Biblical names -

Arpachshad, grandson of Noah, in Genesis 11:10-13 (no derivation given) and Lo-Ammi from Hosea 1:9, 10 ("not my nation"). They were chosen for obscurity, not meaning.

Sorry, it's a ship secret.

She does have two sons, however. Guess what we call them. ;)

And yes, I do know my ship is pronounced to rhyme with lobe. It's just too fun to call it "cob".
