Tuvok

Is this name acceptable?

41 posts in this topic

I am new to these forums and this game. It apears odd that this name (my name) had not been taken yet. Considering you have over 700 members I thought there might be a rule about not haveing the names of chariters in other star trek series.

Well, with some simming sites there is.. but since your name is an actual established canon character , I don't think you can use it if you want to enter Starfleet Academy. Might have to consider using a different name (a non canon name) just to be safe ^_^

Actually I don't know if there is an established rule on this or not. It would be a bit odd if you played a Vulcan and posted to Security.

Then again, Tuvoc may be the equivalent to Jones or Smith or something like that.

And I highly suspect many of those 700 members are duplicates, or someone playing multiple characters, etc.

I just made up a name, and plan on developing a character around it...i also discovered that it is good to put your rank in front of the name ^_^

I'm an ensign but my user name is captain Cougar. :) ^_^

Although when I enter the chat room I don't use Captain Cougar anymore, but now use Ensign Cougar.

I came in and watched a few sims as Mr_SemaJ...then i decided to partake in a few Acad sims, so i changed it to Cadet_SemaJ....when i Graduate it will be Ensign_SemaJ....When i post in the forum, i just use my first name and go as Sam_SemaJ. By the way, if you run into me while simming, feel free to call me Sam.

back to the topic, I saw the name Tuvok as the name David, or Sarah. A name that could be re used starting as a diffrent person. I used the name once in the game and it was fine. I'm guessing (as long as I don't mean the Tuvok on Voyager) I am ok?

There is no specific rule that prohibits the use of a canon-established name. However, I personally would suggest taking a bit of time to come up with a unique name.

It helps you stand out more, and it allows you to truly make a character that is unique and dynamic.

If you want your message board name changed, I can change it. You can also use your message board name/password in the chat rooms. The chat and message board database are linked.

How are they linked? I can log on with a random password. I know they must somehow be linked but I'm wondering how.

P.S. I'll try to come up with another name and pm you.

What I think Webbie means is you can reserve your chat name and password-protect it so that others can't disrupt a chat by pretending to be you - at least not your exact name, maybe a variation of it. (You were asking about 700 members? That might be another reason right there. People reserve all the various spellings of their name to keep others from impersonating them.)

Or, you can get a reputation as low as mine and no one will *want* to pretend to be you. ^_^

well then, get friendly! See, everyone seems to think "Sema'J" is sema jay or something like that, and thinks i'm a girl...when the pronounciation is RIGHT down yonder in my signiture. So its easier just to go by Sam! plus, when i end up in an adv sim...i would feel better at a comfortable level w/ crew mates, and a first name basis helps create that.
