Yeah but now i own the shorter version DVD :( And I have to buy a new one now? I hate it when companies pull stunts like this!

This was not a marketing secret! We've only known for about... three years(!) that Pete was giving us the extended ROTK this December. (Although perhaps not everyone is a LOTR nerd like I am). I personally was hoping the sadist would break down and give it to us earlier. Ah well, I'm still hoping for an extended-extended version next year. :D

As for what was added, the gaps in the short version were so obvious that I mostly knew what was coming, but it was still satisfying to have it. (::happy sigh::) I was especially pleased with the extended footage of the green-death army, and the longer passage through Mordor.

I predicted the Palantier(too tired to look up spelling) chucking into the Isengard pool, but expected it to be as written, chucked by Wormtounge, not the copout Sauroman solution.

I also predicted the House of Healing addition, and got what I expected, albeit a little shorter and too "montaged" for my taste.

I was also pleased to have Merry's servitude pledge to Theoden added.

What else... what else... Oh no - I'm already forgetting! Must watch again!

Oh well.. at least this time, you can pause the DVD incase Nature ever calls during the good parts. Hated when that happened in the theatre when I couldn't pause the movie at my convenience. :D

Ever actually reach next to you in the theatre for the remote, and bump the stranger sitting beside you...yeah, thats embarassing... :P

It really isn't that hard to watch all three of the Extendeds back to back, I do at work almost on a daily basis! ^_^

It was very interesting though watching the the Extended edition of ROTK and then the regular edition, as you could totally tell where the editing was done in the regular edition, you shoulda seen me when I was watching it. "I see now! They shoulda put that extended scene in the movie!"

Oh well. I guess that's the Ringer in me. :)

EDIT>And if you still want to learn more, I'd still recommend picking up the books and reading them. The movies are great, but so are the books, and there are such stark differences between the the movies and the books (Like the infamous Saruman scene in ROTK, one way in the book, and a totally different way in the movie). So yea, just read'em, takes some patience, but it's worth it.
