Ah.

We are also around the 20th anniversary of the creation of the String Theory. Watch for it on PBS's NOVA later this month.

Yes, I woke up yesterday and said, "December 7, a day that will live in infamy" - Then I had to explain it to my kids! Who says that the passing of traditions at home is dead.

Good job, Fred...most don't remember it anymore.

This is true, and most stores have 'sales' "in remembrance of" Pearl Harbor.

****Salutes all who fought and died that day****

It should mean a lot to everybody.

You have a unique experience Jerry since you can hear first-hand accounts of things from that era. Most from then don't want to talk about it and I don't find it suprising really.

Sort of the same thing happened at my house that morning. I said "Dad, it's Pearl Harbor Day, a day that will live.." and he finished "in infamy." Yeah, it's what's always said when someone mentions Pearl Harbor but we said it anyway.

Glad you passed the information on to another generation A9 and hopefully they will do the same.

Yeah, It should mean alot to every American.. but since I'm not American (Canada entering WWII in 1939), I still do feel for those involved though. Don't have to be American to syphathise the loss of many poeple.

I'm kinda late but...

It was a sad thing and tragedy...

But you have to admit that...

... the U.S. had done a great mistake by grouping all of the ships and airplanes (P-40), hence making them an easy target.

... the attack was a great plan and it was a creation of genius. The preparation, the modifying the torpedos etc...

... the good thing was that the carriers were on training (carriers were the main target).

* * *

"Tora! Tora! Tora!" is a great movie about Pearl Harbor...

Those are my 2 cents...

Good picture of the Arizona memorial. I didn't know they built it right on top of the old ship until now.

A day which will live in infamy for ever...

And my own selection of pictures from the day:

Yup, and as the tides go down, more of the steel can be seen above the water. The best part (okay, I went there when I was in Junior High School) was that the gift shop at the memorial sold just one plastic model, the Arizona. It's the only Revell model box I'd ever seen that showed a US ship under attack, very weird.

So, of course, I had to buy it, paint it, build it and then use needle-nose pliers to simulate the explosive damage!

He thinks that it is great education, I enjoy hearing about how he flew missions in the war. He enjoys it, he feels that he was one of the men who protected this great nation. Which he is, and I will never forget that.

Pearl Harbor (and unitll 9/11 the only real) was the first time in American History that we seemed mortal, and the only time America was attacked on American soil. Such an experience is unique through out our history. A little humanity reminds us who we are.

That is a good movie. My dad always had us watch that movie and other WWII movies. There is a lot more impact from the movies than in the classroom. THe day will not be forgotten.

How about the attacks on Balitimore and Washington during the War of 1812?
