Galaxy Quest

27 posts in this topic

TBS aired "Galaxy Quest" a lot this past weekend.

Anyone seen this flick? Its about actors on a cancelled Sci Fi show that get a chance to do it "for real".

Ive always thought of it as a fun, well done Sci Fi movie that spoofs Trek in a nice way.

Yeah, I've got it on tape. Normally this type of humour isn't my favourite type, but I rather enjoyed the movie. It's one of those movies that are good to watch when you need to see something really cheesy and crazy.

I like how there was a new rip in Sigorney Weaver's uniform after every fight scene - even though she had nothing to do with the fight.

I did like the movie, but not because of the movie itself. I forced my dad to go to a local Star Trek convention, where he watched me debate with Majel Barett on some arcaine technical issue. That night he rented the movie and forced me to watch it.

Quite simply a Classic!

With lines like, "Does the rolling help" and "you don't think Gilligan's Island is real! - ohh, those poor people" to the drydock departure scene to the painful/true images of the conventions!!

Oh, and if you get it on DVD (yup, got it) you can chose the alien language (Thurmian) as one of the languages the movie will play in.

Hey there,

I will have to go with my older friend A9 here....a classic. I think Galaxy Quest is more a tribute to Star Trek than the supposed things called Trekkies.

The movie is great. My favorite line is Sigourney's: "Look, I have one job on this lousy ship. I know it's stupid but I'm going to do it!!!" . Or something like that.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my personal endorsement of that particular film.

(Just got finished reading a history chapter on Nixon and they made him sound like that on the Simpsons once so I figured I'd use it.)

Yes, that part was great.

That actor does very well on "Monk" too.

Own it on VHS. Classic film (Lyon agreeing with Fred & A9, 3rd sign of Judgement Day. ) Everything from the "Captains" problem of not realizing he's part of a team, to the cute, but deadly little aliens. Oh aren't they sweet, they kill and devower the weak among them. They make Whiskers seem nice!

I saw it in the theater, got it on tape, and and now have it on DVD. I even replaced the DVD after it got screwy, so.....I geuss I must REALLY like it LOL! (Thermian language? I gotta check that out Atragon 9. Havent tried it yet)

I pretty much love everthing about the flick, even the extreme cheese factor, and many parts crack me up.

Just a couple:

Very beginning of the flick at the first shot of the convention, when the actors are doing autographs. A bunch of fans come up to Alan Ruck (Dr. Lazarus) dressed as his character, and go into the "By Grapthars Hammer, By the Sons of Warban" shtick.....Ive been to a few cons and seen fans really "get into it" like this. The movie has it down cold.

Later in the film, it shows this one kid in his bedroom, with all kinds of Galaxy Quest memorabilia, and Tim Allen contacts him for help? Yep, thats how my bedroom once looked, decorated in post modern retro Trek

Someone mentioned its a better tribute to Trek then "Trekkies" has been? Ya, I agree.

Great movie. I just watched it for the umpteenth time on TBS tonight. Loved the part when Tim Allan's character walked on the "real" flight deck for the first time. Reminded me of a short story in one of the "Star Trek Log" novel's from the seventies called "Visit to a wierd planet revisited". The story was about Shatner, Nemoy and a couple other's on the set of Trek. They're on the transporter set and shimmer to find themselve's on the "real" Enterprise. I wouldn't be suprised if the writer of "Galaxy Quest" read that story as a kid and was inspired to write "Quest"

Zaphod,

"Meow, I say meow boy."

Love it, own it. "I'm a Shakespearian actor!" and trying to escape out the backstage door... The hangover morning in the expensive LA hills home... Nerd kids with all the schematics and episode sequences... This movie is art. :D

I watched the movie the other morning (after waking up in the floor :) ) and the whole time I was thinking ...this is frinkin' awsome!

If only Shatner had a mullet!

My favorite line: "I am going to die! I Don't have a name!"

"No your not"

"Did you people actually WATCH the show????"

 :P
