:) I did that once in an Academy (and so did Tovan, I think) . . . I earned multiple death certificates (although I think I still owe a few more deaths . . . not that I'm reminding anyone or anything . . . ).

Fear . . . ^_^

Hard is our Horta, and Hortas are hard.

Hard the hard Horta serves on the Hood.

Our Horta is handy, our Horta is happy.

Hard is a happy, handy, hard Horta.

Not to mention heroic and handsome, as Hortas go.

We're happy to have Hard the hard Horta help on the Hood.

From the startrek.com library:

" Horta

Episode: TOS 026 - The Devil in the Dark

Planet: Janus VI. A highly intelligent silicon-based species capable of tunneling through solid rock like humans are able to walk through air. The Horta is female and lives below the Federation mining facility. Around stardate 3196.1, the Janus VI miners are suddenly attacked repeatedly by this creature, who as it turns out, is merely trying to protect her young. They are unaware that by mining, they were destroying her children, and in fact, the future of the Horta species entirely. "

OK, what this means is that, according to canon, in the Hood's timeline there is only one Horta old enough to have graduated the Academy - the same one that Kirk anc Co. encountered - and she would have had to leave her children unsupervised to do it.

So how the heck did this hard, handy, happy, heroic, handsome, helpful Horta on the Hood hail? Hmm? ;)

You'd have to be on the Hood for us to tell you.

From the Hood website:

UNITED FEDERATION OF PLANETS

STARFLEET PERSONNEL BIOGRAPHY

Hard

PERSONAL BACKGROUND:

Hard is a Horta. Hortas are hard. Hortas in Starfleet are hard to have. Being a hard Horta on the Hood is hard.

Having no hands makes it hard for hard Hard. Hard has a handy mechanical hand. Hard's hand is hinged onto Hard's head. Hard's hand helps Hard on the Hood. It's less hard with a hand.

Hortas are heavy. Hard is heavy. Hard it not too heavy for a Horta. Hard is not too heavy for the Hood.

Can Hortas hear? Who the hell knows… Hortas know. Hard knows. However, Hard uses a modified universal translator that translates his/her thoughts to the crew. That too is concreted into Hard's hard head.

Heavy, hard Hortas live a heck of a long time. However Hard the Horta is hardly that old. Hard was hatched on Janus VI in 2267. So Hard would have to have been on the Hood before it was hurled back in time.

Is Hard a him or is Hard a her? Are Hortas hims and hers? Who knows? Hortas know. Does Hard know? Hard is hardly old enough to know. I guess we'll say that Hard is neither a him nor a her. However for sim we can call Hard is a he.

Hard the hard Horta is happy to be here on the Hood. :D
