Trivia...Of The Forum Kind.

132 posts in this topic

Hey there,

Since the Star Trek Simulation Forum started, quite a few interesting and rather bazare things have occurred. Many of the games have odd items from their past that most people wouldn't believe. So, I thought, why not start a topic about them? :D

Rules of the game are simple. I'll toss out a question at least once a week and we'll see who's answer is closer to the truth. All will involve either STSF itself or a game of the group. Should you have an idea for a trivia question, let me know via PM and once I've been able to verify the answer is correct...

Hopefully we'll be able to get several of the other GMs involved in asking trivia, but my hope is that it will help spawn some interest in the unique history of the group and the sims themselves. :(

Hope many will participate. If not, :o . So...here we go.

Question 1:

What does a hotel gazebo have to do with the history of STSF?

It is where Dac was honored and admitted as the goddess of STSF... with a few pairs of shoes and a few guys waving leaves for breeze.

Though I'm not sure if that took place on a gazebo or not... :o

I haven't a clue, but you've got me intrigued. Pointless trivia is fun to know. You can get some pretty weird looks frm people.

Let me take a stab in the dark... OUCH!! Bad idea. Anyone have a band-aid?

OK, lets try this again.

The hotel gazebo is where a group of people from SFOL met and laid the groundwork for what was to eventually become STSF.

Oh, dang. I think I remember that somewhere, Vanroy... ugh. They did it at a Shoreleave somewhere, I believe.

I hate it when I lose!

Hotel Gazebo eh? I remember........which GM was it.....hmmm.......

I'm totally guessing cause I can't remember, but I think the gazebo was the place where you guys were planning WORLD DOMINIATION!!!! But instead, made a sim.

"What does a hotel gazebo have to do with the history of STSF?"

I think it's a trick question...a hotel gazebo has nothing to do with the history of STSF.

Do hotels even have gazebos? :P

Oh, like Blurox isn't going to win this game before it even starts! At least this first week we saw the thread before she did... Our only hope is for Fred to post the questions at random times and days. :D I lose trivia before it even starts.

Anyway, Vanroy (one word, I'm lazy) got this one. We called ourselves the Rebel Alliance and had "secret" meetings in the visual-to-everyone hotel gazebo, lol. A very general concept of STSF (to be named later) was laid out for all to mull over and think about.

Hmm. After several different parties, the people we now know as the GM council all happen to wake up hungover in a gazebo and the first thing throught their minds is Star Trek simming.

Hmm...sounds like a question only hosts or those close to hosts would know :)

I'll pass on this question but this seems like a fun game. How about some questions us blue-collared folks might know, Fred  :P

Well, yeah, I do have somewhat of an advantage - being that I am one of the relatively few rank-and-file players who has actually SEEN a GM. :)

And if you want a blue collar question:

Mayonaise - "Mayon, aise sure are a lot of people here tonight."

Hey there,

Well, let's try another one then...shall we? How about a question submitted by someone else.

Question 2:

Which company, based in the United States, shares it's name with STSF? In addition, what product(s) do they sell?

Present Score:

Vanroy - 1

STS Foundation

STS Foundation is based in Scottsdale, Arizona, and has regional and state offices across the United States. STS Foundation was established in 1986. STSF sponsors an international exchange program for high school students, on a non-immigrant J-1 visa, between the ages of 15-18. This gives the students an opportunity to live with an American family for an academic year or semester while attending the local high school.

Only students who show academic interest and achievement, good character, adaptability and a satisfactory command of the English language are accepted. During the 2003-2004 school, STSF will welcome students from Australia, Austria, Brazil, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland and Thailand.

The STSF Area Representatives are the links that support the network. Each Representative works closely with their Regional Coordinator to whom he or she may turn to for advice or information. The STSF National Office also provides 24-hour coverage for emergency situations. Representatives maintain contact with the student, host family and school throughout the exchange year. STS Foundation seeks to work within guidelines set forth by the Council of Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET) and to comply with the regulations on Exchange Visitor Programs under the guidance of the US Department of State (USIA).

STS Foundation also offers a high school year or semester abroad program for qualified American students between the ages of 15 - 18. American students have the opportunity to study in countries throughout Europe, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. Please contact the STS National Office for more information at 1-800-522-4678 or e-mail [email protected].

Anyway, Vanroy (one word, I'm lazy) got this one.

The correct typing of my name: 3 extra keystrokes.

Huff's explanation about being lazy: 22 extra keystrokes.

Proving the inefficiency of your CO's laziness: priceless.

No no, you see, I was setting myself up for YEARS (God help us) of not adding the extra space and cap. So my twelve extra keystrokes (and additional million right now) in the post was a one-time deal, Vanroy One Word.
