The crew believed that the Manticore had been hijacked into

uncharted space by an entity that took possession of Captain

Sovak on Mars. The crew was "transported" to a planet and

the ship was raised back into orbit - with none of the crew

onboard. It turned out that this was all a mental construct

for the entire crew and the crew never left the ship, nor did the

ship ever leave Mars orbit. Sovak, Roget, Precip and Garnoopy

were able to disable the construct only by creating a cascade

failure of the main and backup computer cores, leaving the crew

safe in a ship with no computer, no engineering control, no

communications and barely enough life support. This is clearly a

new definition for the word "safe."
