Neptune Rex

Echoing Thoughts

Lt. Neptune Rex

Communications | Challenger, NX-05

November 23, 2154

>Begin<

The grey haired figure known as Neptune Rex sat sullenly in the command chair of the NX-05. While he had never opposed the project, in fact he had been among its strongest supporters. However, he never figured that not only would he be serving on one of these vessels, but commanding one in a battle hanging nose to nose with a Klingon Battleship.

He had made a command decision, and a risky one at that. The Commodore’s life—and the entire crew’s—had been put up for collateral on a bet. If Commander Moore and his away team could not prove that the Challenger was not responsible for the massacre then everyone’s life would be forfeit, including his own. And yet worse, an intergalactic war would probably follow. Millions of people would pay the ultimate price for a misunderstanding. One he was growing ever suspicious was a set-up.

The suspect list was, at this point, growing longer and longer with each species mankind encountered. There was of course the obvious suspects—the Suliban, the Andorians…as he said the list went on and on. And another name had recently started echoing through his mind. Romulans.

The name bounced back and forth in his head. He knew only what he had been briefed on about them, which was to say as absolutely nothing—and what precious little they did know was hearsay or extremely classified.

But all of that was neither here nor there, he had to concentrate on the matter at hand—he was in Command for the time being and his and everyone on the vessels survival depended on his ability make decisions.

He wasn’t a religious man, but he hoped what ever God there was, would guide him.
