“First impressions and party planning?”

McLean’s Logs

First Lieutenant McLean

Chief Engineering Officer, USS Reaent

0411.18

“First impressions and party planning?”

McLean was surprised at the light-hearted approach he had taken to his first engagement with Lieutenant (Jg) Shenji. Considering his deeply rooted aversion to Klingons, McLean was surprised that he had not reacted worse toward the young Lieutenant. Yet, a lot of things had changed for McLean in the past six months. Since his encounter with Bill Connolly, McLean had seen some positive change in almost every facet of his life. It should not have come with any surprise that his prejudices that, by societal standards, had been strong and often severe were dissipating. Had you told him six months ago that he would be where he was now; he would’ve laughed in your face, called you some unpleasant name and mocked you.

McLean enjoyed the down time in Engineering despite the hustle and bustle going on the upper decks. Doctor Wero had been transferred and the Reaent was on its way to begin a new mission with the USS Portland. He had mentioned the idea of an “Engineer Appreciation Party” and he had actually meant it. With the high level of stress that the staff had to endure over the past six months, maybe even a year, the Engineers deserved to be appreciated. It’s not often that Engineers assert their pride though pride is always evident in their work. McLean ran over some imaginary details in his head. He knew that it would be unlikely to pull such an endeavor off, but he enjoyed the prospect of it, at least.
