I was thinking that STSF should maybe have a sim centered around a hospital ship witha bunch of doctors, so I wanted to see what kind of sim people might want!

Personally, I would like to see a sim set during the Dominion war. Very fun, I'd think.

Oh give me a break.  Half the ships used in the D-war were made from spare parts.  Some of them were even old Constitution class parts.

Hey there,

I once knew of a sim in another group who's primary goal was to act as a medical support vessel. The missions, while normally dealing with a lot of science, had more action than you would expect. ;)

I voted for "explorer" (which could really be any of them, except maybe the transport).  Here's why.

A battleship could potentially end up being about... battles.  There are really only a limited number of times and interesting ways you can say "he shoots, he scores" and "they've just hit us so badly our warp core's going to blow."  Anyway, I don't think Star Trek at its best (and certainly not Star Trek sims at their best, as far as I've experienced them) has ever been during on-ship battles.

A scout or science vessel might be potentially interesting explorer ship, especially since they're small and you're unlikely to be able to shoot your way out of problems.  (Think for a moment about how many ST episodes began with missing and destroyed science vessels).  The main thing you're doing by choosing a ship like that is limiting your ship's abilities.  If you really want a sim like that, you can sim up an opponent for one episode who limits your abilities in any class of ship.  On the other hand, an NX-class Enterprise-era sim would work the same purpose.

Cruisers are basically a general ship class: the could be explorers, battleships, or just about anything.  Most STSF sims are basically taking place on cruisers from different eras (Constitution, Ambassador, Sovereign) already.

A hospital ship might be interesting for the medically minded (or those who like medical technobabble); if it were run well, it would probably work.

A transport just seems pretty boring. Could you really see Starfleet assigning a transport to do anything more than... transporting people/things?

And, so, I chose "explorer" because an "explorer" doesn't have the ship limiting what you can do in a sim.

I say go for the big battleships like the Excalibur Class that's been created on many 3D art sites.

Hey there,

Only problem I have here is the fact, again, Starfleet has never had "battleships." I mean, in the post-Dominion War era I could see it being justified. Heck, what is the Sovereign Class really listed as...an "Enhanced Deterance Explorer." I don't know...::shrugs::

StarFleet is based on exploration sure, but it sounds like they need to face the new frontier with a little muscle.

With threats like Romulans, Borg, and God knows what lurking around the corner, their should be at least a few battleships out there. Look at Star Trek: Nemesis, that ship tore the Sovereign class Enterprise up. If not for her crew, they would not have survived.

The same thing goes for Star Trek: First Contact, without the special circumstances of the crew of the Enterprise, we most likely would all be drones. Drones in grass skirts with coconut bras on......

Yep, I'll agree there. There were no battleships, persay.

There were battle-cruisers per the statement of Christopher Lloyd. And that's in Canon-Trek.

Not quite battleship power, but a battle capable starship.
