I love the quote from Peter Diamandis, head of the X Prize Foundation:

"I want everyone to know space is in your future."

Oh yeah!

I hope all the others continue with their launches too.

For some reason, the thought of "us" going around in space is kind of scary. I mean just imagine the terror Blu would wreak if she really did have photon torpedoes ;)

i saw these guys talk to cnn very cool idea, much more efficiant than nasa

yes, but remember, money friendships won't last. ie. if we give money to some guys who built a space ship, they can easily just sell it to an enemy factor for more money. and the factor could pull a kamakazi, and crash into our spacestation.

(ack! Now I'm using stuff I learned in school on STSF! ;) )

Big day, big step, eh. Slightly disappointed that a Canadian team didn't win, but that's my nationalism talking. Oh, and also the part of me that's horrified that Microsoft has another foothold in space. ;)

But otherwise it's a great thing, a private spaceflight that proves the industry could work. That it will work. And that people will get rich charging rich people huge amounts of money to fly into space.

It would be idiotic not to after all the development dollars folks have put into it ^.^ That and the X-Prize folks are planning on holding a regular air-space show, the X-Prize Cup. Which will be the topic of my final project in my infographics class ;)

I am trilled for the team. It is a remarkable achievement! One of these days, flying in space will be like flying from Nashville to Dallas on an American Airline flight. It'll just be the normal thing to do.

From here on out, aerospace engineering is going to be teaming up with aeronautic engineers to create some multi-purpose crafts.

Wonderful!

Cheers to the team, and here comes the future.

i belive the ship cost then like 15 million+ so they are acually in the hole... so money isn't really an issue, i guess

They spent 20 million just to win 10 million. Yet I thought they were rocket scientists.

First of all, they are rocket scientists, not accountants. ;)

Second, imagine how much money wining this award will bring the scientists over the rest of their lives - increased funding, job offers, etc. Certainly this will be more than the $10M deficit.

Cool. ;)

Yes, the XPrize was definitely worth it no matter what the cost.

Besides, SpaceShipOne was funded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen . . . he has money to spend. :)
