Neptune Rex

First Contact

Lt. Neptune Rex

Communications | Challenger NX-05

Oct. 4, 2154

>Begin<

Looking around the planet, Neptune sighed to himself. No sooner had they touched down and started poking around the planet, had they screwed something up.

They had made first contact with an alien race—that was the good part—the bad part was they had shot her. That was a fine “how d’ya do”…shooting someone. Not to mention someone had set off a blasted explosive, they might as well just have wrang the doorbell with a two-by-four.

But then what did he expect from the military? After all, he was about the only one, other than the Commodore, that had any extensive dealings with non-humans. Tact had certainly never exactly been a strong point of the human race.

As he watched the doctor work on the native girl, he had this feeling that the next few hours was going to be interesting—he also figured that his diplomatic skills were about to come to use.

Turning his attention to the matter at hand, he realized that if they we’re going to have contact with this “Acamarian” race, that he’d need to be able to communicate with them. Thankfully, he’d brought along the Universal Translator, but even that wasn’t a sure thing that he’d be able to communicate with them.

He just hoped he’d be able to explain to them they really hadn’t meant to shot the girl. Oh god he could hear himself now.

“Listen Mr. Native-Chief-Guy…we really didn’t mean to shoot this girl here with our proton guns…”

Then he realized something, this race was supposedly very primitive—oh dear—they’d probably think they were Gods and try and sacrifice something…Neptune shook his head—when this was over he was going to have to brief the entire crew on how to make diplomatic contact.
