STSF, educational?

Yes, you heard me. Educational. Book smart educational. Yeah, you heard me. Book smart. Oddly enough, I've learned stuff here at STSF. Not one, not two, but not four though. Three times. Three times, when people thought I was smart, because I read the boards. In history, the teacher asked if any of use knew who Machiavelli was, and alas, my hand was the only one up. Later that day, the teacher mention Odepis Rex (or however you spell it), and, again, I was the only one who knew that it was about a guy who was told he would kill his father and gettin with his mother, tried to prevent it, but ended up killing his father and gettin with his mother. Third, I learned from A9, on the A or B game, about Hispanola. It was a multiple choice q on the news about Haiti, and I was the only one who -actually - knew the right answer (some of the other people just followed and said that same letter I said). So, I thank STSF for actually making me look smart for a change. ::jay london impersination:: Thank you.

And, on another note, this is my 500th post! :P

And my parents say that Message Boards can never help me with my education. Boy are they about to be blown out the water.

My English teachers expected me to become a writer as an adult... I don't think I've developed in quite the way they'd intended... lol. Oh well, qapla to their hard work!

You know writing on STSF is adictive. And I believe that I have wrote enough for STSF to put it all into a book.

Oh yeah, definately learned my share of interesting factoids here in the boards.. ;) I'd say STSF is almost like an on-line school here. He he he.

At one point many moons ago, I took a number of the logs compiled by the crew of oneof my sims that I played in and actually wrote a book for it. It took me about 8 months of editing, but I finished it. When it was all said and done, it was over 600 pages.

I have the original Word file of the edited works somewhere. It would just be a matter of digging it up again.

Regarding forums being educational.... I think they're an absolutely fantastic resource. I follow over a dozen forums, covering topics from server administration to Star Trek to politics and even a forum on Everquest. Even those "fun" boards end up discussing topics that give me a better insight into the world around me based on the opinions and thoughts of others.

Rule #4 of acquiring information: If you cannot find it on the resource Internet pages, start looking on message boards.
