I'm all for giving people more options, but for me I am happy with the way things are now. That being said it was a problem when I was a cadet trying to rush home in Silicon Valley traffic (Why do they call it "Rush Hour" when the average speed is only 20 MPH?) in time to sim, but that was 2 years ago wh... Man, 2 years already? ...when there were a lot less GMs, and what few we had mostly lived back east. Now we have more GMs, including 2 in California that I know about, so we can have a wider variety of Academy times.

On this forum, this post topic can replace the definition of a 'frequently asked question' (FAQ).

Surprise! It's in the ... Frequently asked questions list!

It's considered proper netiquette on this and any other forum to read FAQs before asking questions. Of course, if your question/post/topic isn't a FAQ, then there's no problem posting it, and we'd all be glad to respond (and after that watch it degenerate into silliness).

Hey folks,

Can we give a little grace here to those who are new? You too were once a cadet and were full with questions!

Cdt.Q101,

To answer your question posed in your poll, the reason the times are the way they are is because of our staff's real life schedule. Our dedicated GMs have families, jobs or go to school (or both!) and other interests just like anyone else. The larger that this forum grows, the more GMs we will need. This will lead to a greater flexibility of times offered. My number one piece of advice is...

*Attend what sims you can and be patient for more. They will come. :(

Welcome Aboard!

We have a regular simmer (Images) who sims from Hong Kong. What most of us consider a before- or after-dinner activity cuts into his breakfast. It can be done.

I agree, it would be nice. It would also be nice to fly to Maine to pick up some lobster for lunch tomorrow in my private jet. Reality, however, is I will probably drive to Carl's Jr.

You work with what you have and that's all you can do.

Oh golly...you're right that sounded mean. :(

Didn't mean to sound mean, or discourage anyone, sorry if I did. :D Remember there is never a dumb Question, except the one not asked.

What are Featured Sims

Are they for everyone?

Featured sims are Advanced sims, which means you must first graduate from the Academy. They are just regular Advanced sims which have been selected to be spotlighted and publicized for a time period. It's a way of telling people more about the options STSF offers.

Graduation is not a race. Whether you sim every week or once a week does not matter. You should come to whichever Academy(ies) you are able to attend, and not worry about whether you're spending as much time simming as someone else. You will graduate in your own time regardless.

Actually, this idea about simming every night is a little puzzling to me. When I started simming, the conventional wisdom was to pick one sim and stick with it, so that the GMs would get to know you and your style and could help you get better and see you improve. I don't see anything wrong with simming frequently, just because it's fun to sim, but I still think it's better to be a regular in one or two sims than to jump around a lot.

thats how i graduated it took me almost 4 weeks, and there is the occasional long weekend which give you an extra day to catch up on sleep that you may have lost

it also takes a long time to become a gm when i first viewed this site in july maybe 3 GMs have been added i belive you have to be a LTsg for a half a year and show a good idea of the simming itself, not an easy feat graduating is a nice accomplishment in itsself

I wouldn't mind seeing some earlier sim's, but realistically we don't have enough GM's to do that. Most of the acadamy's are set up to accomidate most people. You really don't have to go to every acadamy every night, just pick the one's that suit your schedual. We've gotten two new GM's since I became a member. I can see a day in the future when we have like 3 acadamy's every day. But, we'll need a bunch of GM's to accomplish that.

1) Click on the schedule to find an Academy time that you can make.

2) Click on the Chat Rooms about 5-10 minutes prior to the Academy sim you want to make. (If you show up a few minutes late it is usually not a problem to be added, but the earlier you show up the better chance you have of getting the post you want.) Academy sims are always in the Holodeck.

3) Follow the instructions of the GMs when they ask who is interested in playing. GMs usually (but not always) have STSF as part of their chat names.

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

Actually, because of my schedule I only participate in one advanced simulation and sometimes make an appearance at the 9pm Tuesday Academy. But otherwise, that's ok for me.

Yeah, basically patience is the best think to excercise when it comes to getting more GM's and sim times. They'll come, you just have to hang on and wait you them. :P

The downright truth? You can't have a sim until you have people to run them, and all of the GMs in STSF are doing their part. Many of the GMs are already pulling double (or triple) duty in sims, etc.

Patience, young grasshopper. :P
