Gender: Male

Height: 5' 9"

Weight: 156

History

Stephen "Tepik" Maturin was born on Earth along the eastern coast of Australia. The son of two scientists, he spent most of his life in secluded regions while his parents studied various terrestrial phenomena. At the age of 5 his parents relocated to Vulcan as part of a scientific research program designed to gradually introduce new technologies and extra-terrestrious ideologies to humans.

Despite being human, and despite a clear disdain of humans from the Vulcans, Stephen was schooled on Vulcan along with other Vulcan students. Being human and previously home-schooled by his parents, he was well behind his Vulcan counterparts and was placed in classes far below his age-group. Constantly teased by his peers he quickly earned the nickname "Tepik" from his Vulcan classmates.

It was not until he was 12 that he learned that "Tepik" is Vulcan for "Savage". But he kept the name as a reminder that Vulcans were not, as most humans believe, the logical and passive people they claim to be, but are capable of cruelty and racism just as any primitive human. To Maturin, the nickname exemplifies an egotistic and ethnocentric Vulcan character.

Tepik remained on Vulcan with his parents until he was 18, when he moved back to Earth to continue a human education there. At 19 he joined the Earth StarFleet.

Upon completion of his training, Maturin was assigned to the StarFleet Engineering Corps where he made incredible breakthroughs in power distribution technologies. In fact, the Challenger herself uses a Class 4-S Power Junction in its redundancy systems that was co-designed by Maturin.

When the Challenger construction was completed he was assigned there as its Chief Engineer.
