Neptune Rex

Clandestine Voyage

Lt. Neptune Rex

Communications | Challenger NX-05

Sept. 20, 2154

>Begin<

The doors to S-5 on E-Deck slid open slowly and a gray figured entered the room. As Neptune looked around, he sighed to himself.

“How did I ever let them talk me into this,” he said as he unbuttoned the top-section of his uniform.

Lazily he fell onto the bed, he was hungry, but right now he just wanted to sleep. It had been a long first duty shift, complete with him being in the center seat, a red alert, sabo , Suliban, and vomit. This was shaping out to be one of the more interesting missions in history, and they were only one day in—joycasm.

Starfleet had sent back the information confirming the scans of Alpha Centauri just before Neptune left the bridge. At least something went right for a change.

Walking down the corridors, Neptune realized his elder statesmen status, as most of the crew were young, fresh ensigns. Sadly, one of those fresh Ensigns, a man ironically named Lucky had already perished. That had not been one of Neptune’s more enjoyable tasks on his first duty shift, sending out the death certificate and the note concerning the death to Earth.

Closing his eyes, Neptune let his mind drift. This Suliban race, he had been briefed on them before—just before he left for Andoria over 4 months ago. Starfleet knew precious little about them, and what they did know wasn’t promising. This whole temporal cold war thing, it just gave Neptune a headache.

But he couldn’t help to be frustrated. He, along with so many others, had worked so hard just get Challenger launched with out it being destroyed, then in one failed swoop, these Suliban could have destroyed everything. Luckily for them, the Suliban seemed to be as adept to destroying Challenger as Wyle Coyote was to catching the Road Runner.

Letting out a deep breath, Neptune tried to clear his mind, to think of nothing, nothing but calm darkness. And as he did he drifted slowly, but surely into a restful slumber.

He like the rest of the Challenger crew were embarking on a mission of epic importance, maybe not to them, but with the eyes of the Universe fixed on them, failure was not an option.
