A Chocolate Nightmare

The only sure thing about luck is that it will change.

-Bret Harte

Adrian lay in sickbay cursing to himself. A candy bar, a bloody, lousy, stinking, stupid, tiny little candy bar ruined what was supposed to be one of the greatest days of his life. He was THERE. He was on the bridge of Starfleet's newest vessel, controlling tactical operations and what happened? He slammed his head into the desk, fell on the floor and vomited all over the place before passing out, all the while mumbling like a nutter. Great first impression. The Commodre and Commander would have such a high opinion of him now. They'd probably think he got scared or spacesick and ruined a perfect launch. Now he was off duty, lying on an uncomfortable bed for God knows how long till his system would be cleared of the harmful chemicals. The harmful chemicals of course had to come from the stupidest of sources. Adrian had gone to the resequencers and ordered a candy bar, one of the few things it could supposedly create before going to the launch party because he thought it would give him some energy. Like hell it did. The machine had some kind of malfunction because now he'd been poisoned by a whole variety of strange substances. Adrian knew the damn thing had tasted funny but it was a resequencer so that wasn't too unusual. But one fact remained, the initial Challenger testers had done it again and spoiled everything. If he ever got back to earth in one piece, every single one of those testers would get their legs broken. Not a very Starfleet attitude towards things but very human.

Adrian swore out loud some more till somebody upped his medication to put him to sleep.
