I think it could have been a much more interesting series if they set it maybe 50 years later.  The Federation could be in the process of forming but still resolving internal disputes, Sarak could be a young man just starting his political career,  the Enterprise wouldn't be the only ship in the "fleet", and it would still be early enough in the timeline to keep all the key elements.

As it is now, the show just sucks.  The writers could be using the Temporal Cold War to correct some "mistakes" like the Eugenics War not happening after all, or how the Humans and Romulans fought a war without having seen each other even though both societies we now know were warp capable, but they're not doing that.

Hey there,

Well...since you mention the Romulans...

If you look at some early TOS images of the Neutral Zone, Earth and Romulus aren't that far apart. I don't think it's been said or shown by anyone that the Romulans have warp drive...something they don't get until their short lived alliance with the Klingons.

As for "visual communication," I think they did a great job with that. Starfleet has the technology...the Romulans don't. And since the next topic of debate is the comment made during Ballance of Terror when they say "and that war was faught with atomic warheads," no one's really gotten into what currently makes up Starfleet's torpedos.

Right, forgot about the Klingons giving the Romulans warp power.  But still, how can you have a Star Empire without it?

Regarding this Poll  I would of selected more than one of the provided selections! The chance to critique Voyager was awfully tempting...but since  Enterpirse is the focus...I put my 2 cents in that show.

Regarding the Temporal Cold War on Enterprise,  I have kind of resigned myself to the belief it is going to be an ongoing arc throughout the series. Interesting to note it isn't the main focus of the show, rather I feel it is a show about an Earth ship stumbling around a new frontier...seeing new sites and getting into trouble.  I have no doubt well see more of the Temporal Cold War in the future, it just isn't the main emphasis of the show right now.

I agree that the Producers have handled the first encounters with the Romulans well.  Everything appears to be inline with what was laid out in TOS at the moment.

With regards to torpedoes, I certainly hope the producers do not follow the mistake they did with Voyager in providing a seemingly endless supply of them..especially given NX-01's size.  A resupply mission is in order..too bad those Boomer ships are so slow, and Archer's reference to more NX class vessels being built..suggests it'll be a while before any supplies arrive. (Unless..our favorite Vulcans become gun runners..hehe)

A show I enjoy compared the the gauntlet of reality trash shows out there.

::slaps Fred::  I loved Voyager!  And the theme song to this piece o' crap is the only thing I can tolerate.  Okay, I like the doc and can tolerate the communications chick.  Of the rest, the dog shows more promise than any of 'em.  Well alright, the thing living in the sand tank in Flox' office had a personality and good timing.

Hey there,

Couldn't be any worse than another "Wesley to the rescue!!" episode.  ;)

I'm with Huff -- sorta -- I despise the theme song as a theme song, though I think it's good music.   I could take the doctor or leave him, but at least he's not as annoying as the other characters.  The communications officer was the one character that interested me when I saw the pilot -- I loved that they were doing something realistic with communications, and I loved the way she got talked into coming along.   :o  That said, the rest of the crew could have total lobotomies and I don't think I'd notice.  Porthos is a cutie, though.  I'm even willing to ignore the 'how'd Archer get a dog onto a small military ship' question.   :o    And all of that said, I've given up watching the show after I spent most of the first season either falling asleep in the middle of episodes, shouting at the screen, or turning it off in disgust.   Means I had to give up my Trek fix for a while, but I've discovered one nice thing about Irish TV -- lots of Trek re-runs.   Except DS9; I haven't seen a single ep of that yet.   ;)

Hey there,

Look...any show that can somehow justify going through 47 shuttle craft when the ship is only supposed to have 5 has a serious problem. And don't tell me they were all stored in Janeway's hair during the first few seasons....   ;)

I'd absolutely love to see how the engineers pulled this one off, must have something to do with tech. from the 29th century they picked up.  :o

Oh, be quiet!  I am entitled to selectively ignore inconsistancies as I see fit!  (Which series didn't do stupid crap like 47 shuttles or 182 planets that look like southern California?)  I liked the bun.

Given her Bun was about as big as a Starbase..perhaps that would explain the silly shuttle issue on Voyager. That Bun was big Fred...Perhaps all Voyager's extra torpedoes were stored up there as well.

Enterprise Is still relatively in it's infancy, I certainly hope that is produced better than Voyager was. I suppose we won't be able to make that judgement call until Enterprise's run is complete.

Regarding Voyager, I have to add..If the producers  had just made a better effort to show a ship that's been away from Starfleet facilities for 7 years after  being in so much combat; I may have been able to "overlook" Voyager expending shuttles from its rear at such a ridiculous rate.

As for all the planets looking like Southern California...hehe can't argue with that..I doubt they filmed elswhere on location!

Ok, first of all, you can point out a ton of inconsistancies in ANY of the ST series. We don't to completely and utterly insult an entire ST series just because of your opinion. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but be careful about just blatently blasting something.

Anyways, since we've started this fascinating discussion on Janeway's bun, I had a thought tonight about a really cool feature of this bun that they never utilized...

Given her Bun was about as big as a Starbase..perhaps that would explain the silly shuttle issue on Voyager. That Bun was big Fred...Perhaps all Voyager's extra torpedoes were stored up there as well.

Imagine this if you will : There is a crew mutiny in progress. Janeway is in a corridor, pinned down, with only one phaser. Suddenly, her phaser is hit, it falls out of her reach. What is she to do? Oh my!

Janeway just smiles, and in her unique voice says, "Good thing I've got my bun". She reaches up, and from the top of the bun, she pulls out a cricket phaser, grins, and saves the day.

Now, as you can see, this bun would have its advantages.

:: grins :: By any chance, am I the only one who thinks this senerio reminds you of a "mentos" tv ad?

Well, actually when it comes to opinion Garnoopy, such as what you read in your newspaper its just that..opinion.

Opinion comes in many forms positive, negative and mixed.

You cannot insult an entire series by pointing out its inconsistencies.  That wouldn't be fair. Heck, Enterprise already has goofed. Do I say the show sucks because it's little trivial flaws no, nor do I insult it.

Likewise with Voyager, yes she had unrealistic goofs as well.

DS9, TOS and TNG all had their inconsistencies. Simply pointing them out doesn't insult the show.  Heck, to my recollection  I watched every episode of these series despite them. So...I dont think any blasting was done. Otherwise..my TV would be turned off by then in shear frustration at the show.

I was still watching  Voyager after I discovered it exceeded its complient of shuttles. I still watched it when it should of ran out of torpedoes. Why? Because there were elements to  the show I DID like. Voyager's episodes  (the 2 parter when Voyager is partially asmillated  by borg components was great) The  Year from Hell is another example of an episode I give high praise for.  Torres was a damn good character which I enjoyed to watch..one moment a bit Klingon the other Human..

Now as for the Mentos Girl mentioned...you got me there!..;)

I wish to apologize Precip, my post made it look like I was directing my comments towards you, and I was really not. I've just noticed over some time on the forum that people have used their opinions as a reason to be able to direct insults towards an entire series and people who enjoy it. This was not meant towards you, more meant towards people in general to make note of how they are posting and what they are saying.

Well following along with what Garnoopy said a little bit back, it must have been some of that technology like last night's Enterprise had. The inside of the bun was bigger than the outside. :-) I must say that it was pretty cool last night, why can't we have cars like that? Huh? Huh?
