startrek.com

Is STSF official? Well, is it sponsered/endorsed/whatevered by startrek.com.

I know it's been advertised on startrek.com, but I was wondering, is it?

I think in the days of old, STSF took place on startrek.com, but now that it has its own chat room, is it still owned/controled/whatevered by startrek.com?

It doesn't have to be "sponsered/endorsed/whatevered" by startrek.com to be official...it just is.

so, how is it official?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it is official. As the site (this site) says, STSF does work hand in hand with Paramount to provide a good simming experience. But since we haven't simmed in startrek.com chatrooms since October, I'm not sure if that is the case. But, STSF is in association with STSF, and startrek.com still does link to here, so I do believe that STSF is the official sim/RPG site of startrek.com

As far as total control of the group goes, STSF answers only to the GM Council. In turn however, the GM Council works with PDE (Paramount Digital Entertainment) with regards to promoting a positive gaming community. We provide a well-run gaming enviornment that they don't have to deal with the headaches of running and they provide promotion and support as necessary.

We work together with for example the message boards, handing chats during times when there are not interviews scheduled with stars, etc. The reason we are not in Paramount rooms is because of technical issues on they're end. Both sides are aware of these issues and both have a understanding to that effect.

You won't find another group that has/is working as closely as we are with Paramount. We have a very cooperative relationship and I think that both sides are happy with the results.

What Webbie says is correct. We have a close working relationship with StarTrek.com and work with them to obtain the advertisements and links to our site from theirs. At one time we actually used the rooms at startrek.com to run our sims, but they discontinued the public rooms at their site, so we started our own rooms here.

Hope that answers your question!

Technical issues...I remember hearing that, about a year ago...which makes me ask, "Are we ever going back?" I mean, a lot of people made a big fuss, I didn't care then, and I don't care now, Im just wondering.

I know it was said then, that due to some stuff, a lot of things needed to be fixed and that the chat rooms were basicly on the bottom list, but it's been like 11 months or so. What's up?

::Slaps himself after posting right after Sovak::

Which now makes me ask, why did they close the rooms?

To answer your question, they never really gave us a clear reason as to why they closed the rooms. They decided, when they redesigned the website, that running full time chat rooms was something they did not wish to do any more. They did send a us a warning, so we had time to set up our own, and told us that they might (operative word here is "Might") bring them back after an undetermined time.

Running our own rooms is working out well, however. And as long as they keep sending new folks here from their site, I don't see a problem with it. I don't wish to demean the folks at Paramount in any way. They have every right to decide what kind of content they want on their site, and have been very cooperative with us. All indications are that they will continue to be.

If you wish to help, be sure to post to their boards, how happy you are that they still include STSF's link, as it gives all of you a place to sim and chat, and that those things are important to you as fans.

As I said before, the relationship we share with Paramount is very positive. Both sides recieve a something in return for our efforts.

I'm sure the rest of the GM Council will agree with me when I say that the Paramount folks have been pretty straight with us and treated us well. They've given us heads up as necessary, and have been helpful in resolving any technical issues that have crept up along the way.

For now, they've decided they don't want to run chat rooms except for they're live chats with the actors. That's totally up to them, and I completely support they're decision. In the mean time though, they've been promoting our own chat rooms so that if folks DO want to chat, they have a venue to do so in.

Since the only time we really NEED our rooms are during the games on our schedule, there is no reason why we could not allow folks to enjoy them. I think both sides are happy with this arrangement for now, as they have one less "headache" to deal with while at the same time providing a service to they're audience... and it goes further to help promote our games more as well.
