I'd have to say probobly Passions. I've been there since the begining, but around the time they replaced Ethan I began to loose intrest. It's still a good show, but I just don't seem to watch it much anymore.

I also like the "Pigs In Space," which plays out more like a space opera. Although the show played out as a "they flew around, went to a planet, something happened, and left" kind of story, the character's were quite interesting, and them putting on Mark Hammel was a good move.

Also, I like the Cliff Hanger guy from Between the Lions. I feel the story somewhat drags on, with the words can't...hold...on...much...longer! end every episode, I feel the events that just took place were a waste of time, although the Shanter-esk speak may have helped me enjoy it.

(I had a six year old cousin that I would watch once and a while, not that I don't watch the show when he's not around....)

As for DS9, never heard of it. :)

I'm not much of a soap opera wather, but I used to watch Passions and Days of our lives, when my sister used to live in my house and I had nothing else to do.. but I did like Passions, it had it's funny moments in it, like Timmy and that orangatan.. and Charity's such a hottie too. :)

Personally I've never watched soap opera's. They are just way to time consuming. Television in itself is time consuming. I haven't had time for Enterprise, let alone something in the middle of the day like a soap.

However, I must admit, DS9 was a great soap, if you consider it one. ::chuckle::

Sigh, Timmy. That was another reason I liked the show. When he died, well, the show started to go downhill.

I perfered ENT over DS9 as a soap. Although for both of the shows you knew how it would end, it took ENT about 20 less episodes to finish its plot.

I hate soaps. A month goes by and they're still whining about the same garbage over and over. It's so overly-dramatic you can't keep a straight face watching it. Plus, its pretty much completely predictable. The music tells you exactly whats going to happen, who is good and who is bad, and you're always safe in the knowledge that if the show gets into a slow-spot (meaning 2 days goes by and nothing earth-shatteringly-dramatic happens) someone will get shot or have an affair. :)

It's funny how soaps have slipped back into the "daytime drama" definition. And much as I loved DS9's never-ending story line, a continuing story doesn't make it a soap.

My three favorites soap opera's of all time (and none of them were daytime):

Gone With The Wind - don't let the buring of Atlanta fool you. It's a soap.

The Forsythe Saga - Masterpiece Theatre just remade this one. It was wonderfull ... filled with all sorts of demented secrets and love triangles.

Dynasty - The second syllable of that word was "nasty" for a reason. Joan Collins redefined the archtypical soap queen. It was gloriously decadent and fun.

You're thinking of those dreadful American soaps, not like Cornation street!

::sigh::

First... I work evenings, so my days are free.

Second, I KNOW they are terrible! I know this. I understand this. I accept this.

Third, VCR tapes are cheap anyway, and you get rid of the diaper and hair color commercials

Fourth, you don't have to actually WATCH them, but can have them in the background while you do work.

Fifth, there are far worse vices in the world...

So... I've been watching All My Children for about fifteen years, for better, for worse, for bad acting, for bad lighting, for cheesy storylines spoon fed to you bit by bit like you are a brainless sputtering imbecile incapable of even the most basic synaptic deduction. And I like it. ;)

::jumps on the Huff bandwagon::

As stupid as they are, it is a break from the day to day crap. When I'm home, the TV is on in the background and believe me, I'd rather listen to Dru and Phyllis fight or John and Kate make out than the never ending, "the world is going to hell" on one of the endless news channels.

I have more than enough reality, give me a recess from it anytime :P

And why didn't The Young and Restless make the list? I've been watching Days (on and off) since I was 13. I added Y&R when I started college. I, too, was there when Passions debuted and I love it simply because the writers *know* that soap operas are a hard right turn from reality so they have FUN with it. (though it's not the same without Timmy -- and Sheridan should just die and be done with it - maybe she can come to one of my academies!)
