What is you favorite opera?

29 posts in this topic

So far I like Carmina Burana, but I only see opera when I'm hired to play 'em, so I don't have a big repertoire to choose from yet.

What's yours??? lol

Oh No! What have I started?!

I've only seen "Phantom," and after seing that, I perfer Klingon operas. Seriously, I perfer plays and musicals. I'm not big on listening to 5 people singing different things at the top of there voices at the same time. I don't want to pay $30 to sit and watch that when I can just go to school and here it for free. :)

Hmmm. My favorate opera is Don Geovani, seconded by the Barber of Sevile. I guess that last one was cause I was exposed to it as a child through Bugs Bunny. :) Modern Opera's, I'd have to pick either Jesus Christ Superstar, or Les Miserable.

Zaphod,

I'd probably have to say Les Miserablés, followed closely by Phantom. Real good operas, they are. :)

::Scratches head::

Isn't Phantom of the Opera, like, a musical? Not an opera? Just set in an opera hall?

No, I've had to sit through three hours of it, and it is definitly an opera. I mean, it even says that in the title. Look. "The Phantom of the Opera." ::nudge:: See. See.

It says The Phantom OF the Opera, which means the key noun in the title is The Phantom. Of The Opera is merely an adjective describing The Phantom. You could easily call it The Phantom of the Intergalactic Shoot-Em-Up without making it an intergalactic shoot-em-up.

Gilbert and Sullivan...

Let me see if I have it right: 20 beautiful young virgins in flowing dresses need to be taught about love by old men in uniform. Songs alternate between "the fast one" and "the slow one" all night long...

Is that about right? Hehe, thank God for people like you who keep me in work! :)

(Just got off a run of some trite piece of crap called, "Patience.")

Personally I prefer musicals. Operas are cool, but since they are quite often preformed in other languages besides english and spanish I get frustrated with them.

Musicals are great, I've seen way to many to pass a judgement on which is my favorite. Showboat was amzaing, Fiddler on the Roof, Suessical, and others.

In other preformances I have enjoyed, Blue Man Group is downright aweasome.

I don't watch them much, but if I had to pick a favorite, I'd say "All My Children" :)

I still consider Phantom as an opera.

But then again, I consider an opera a musical with singing so horrible and loud that my ears sting in pain.
