I never got into B5 myself, because it got to "soap operish". That is, someone who watches the show only occassionally, and who was unfamiliar with the major characters or plot line, didn't have much clue as to what was going on. One day I turned it on and the Commander of the station had changed! I never watched it much after that.

In contrast, STNG had engaging story lines that, for the most part, conluded in an hour. If you missed a show or three, you weren't lost in the story line.

That having been said, I voted for SG1, not for the above reason, as anyone can use the same argument against this show, but because I love the interaction between the characters. Richard Dean Anderson has made Colonel (Now General) O'Neill into a much more interesting character than Kurt Russel ever did. And Amanda Tapping is one of my favorite actresses. Major (Now Colonel) Carter is an interesting character as well. SG1 producers took a chance that an attractive woman who is also super smart, as well as can occasionally kick some major butt, would be a viable character. If you recall, Gene Rodenberry tried the same thing in the TOS original pilot, with Majel Barrett cast as the first officer, and was shot down by the producers.

Anyway, I have come to enjoy the show. I've watched the Atlantis episodes, so far, and am beginning to warm to it, for many of the same reasons. David Hewlett's character, Dr. Rodney McKay, is particularly engaging. (And the actor is also a self-proclaimed computer nerd in RL). As time goes on we'll see how the series goes.

I had the same criticism about DS9. One week Colonial Kira was CO of DS9 and a couple episodes later she was wearing a Starfleet uniform as a LtCdr, 2 ranks below. I couldn't make heads or tails.

Many of au know my thoughts on DS9 and on B5...could never really get into either of them.

I have been a fan of Sci fi as long as I can remember..there were several shows I loved at one point or another..the first being Space 1999 w/ Martin Landow..ie, I am aging myself since most of au have na idea who Martin LAndow is...think the old semi-good guy from X files, the movie.

Buck Rogers, the first couple seasons when Wilma was a blonde....(oh Wilma)

Battlestar Galactica...Starbuck was the man.

TOS re-runs then finally, TNG..even in the first 3 seasons, I loved it.

Quantum Leap was really good, especially with the story twists.

X-files was my fav..hated to see it go..wanted them to go on 4 ever...

BUT...

Stargate..with its storyarcs and awesome writing...it is kinda like how I ran the unofficial sims..making fun of itself while having an awesome time...(Sam humming the theme song to the show while in the elevator is classic)SG1 is...how do the kids say...the shiz-nit.. :P :D
