Smart Idea There

“Smart idea there”…Kroells’s logs (Log 76)

“What’s that word…that you say…when you can’t say anything else?”

“Uh…speechless sir?”

Travis snapped his fingers, “That’s the one.” He paused for a moment, thinking. “Kyle…Who’s smart idea was this again?”

Kyle gave him a blank stare, dumbfounded by the question.

Travis furrowed his brow for a moment, “Oh yeah, that was my idea…”

Kyle smirked as he and Ensign Hailey picked up another large piece of debris. The young Lieutenant Junior Grade Officer was considered Travis’s “go to” guy, after Xavier. And, with him on board the Hawking right now, a lot of responsibility fell into Kyle’s lap.

A small etching of a smile traced Travis’s lips as he watched Kyle and Hailey walk off. The sensor dome was a mess. Anything that wasn’t burnt out had exploded, and anything that hadn’t exploded…well…probably didn’t work before this whole fiasco.

After repairing several of the burnt out control panels, the damage was obvious. Nearly every power relay feeding into the long-range sensors was burnt out. The extent of the damage, Kroells’s estimated that it would probably take anywhere from 18-24 hours to repair, even if he ran the department on 12 hour rotating shifts. Fortunately, for now, with the Reaent being towed by the Hawking, which at least had their sensors. However, that hour estimate given by Ensign Marish on the warp core cool down was coming up, and what would happen then he only wished he knew.

At the moment, he was wrestling with his mind over whether or not to go up to the bridge, and talk to Payton. While he had been rather cynical of her actions during the events at the junkyard, Travis was sure she probably did the right thing. It was just, that their command styles were different…and, well the situation wasn’t exactly typical.

Travis chuckled, command style? He was only in a position of power because nearly all the senior officers were trapped off the ship, and Fred had given a nice shot to the head…and even then he was only acting XO. He just hoped this would be over soon, so that a somewhat stable command structure could be put back in place…Ridire’s going to have a fit over the mess we’ve made…

Kyle walked back towards Kroells, having finished dumping that large piece of metal, looking forward for something less “physical” to do. “So professor, what’s the mad plan of your insane genius today?”

Travis smirked as he looked over a padd letting Kyle get away with the joke. “Well…of course, this is an insane plan and all, but I’m leaving you in charge down here. I figure I might as well report to Lt. Hickok the end result of our fun with the sensors…”

Kyle smirked as Kroells turned to walk out the door. “Have fun sir!”

Travis chuckled, and turned around. “Yes, because, explaining to people why I blow stuff up is fun. So are the usual psyche evaluations too!”

Kyle let out a good laugh as Travis left the room, and turned around and looked upwards towards the ceiling, almost expecting it to come down on their heads…
