Sending a PM

I was just in a Academy sim and I was getting a PM every 10 sec. or so telling me what to do. I don't mind the help but it took me away from the sim to much that I was falling behind. Is that the way it is alway done? :lol:

Not generally... in the Academy, if the GM feels a player is lost or wondering what the heck to do, they might send a message to the player giving them some tips and feeding them a few lines to get them started.

If you are getting to the point where you are comfortable with playing on your own, please feel free to let the GM know that. Part of they're job is to help you out and get you comfortable with how things work here.

Welcome aboard.

Is this a GM? or another player?

sounds like another player, Gms would NEVER swamp another player with pms .... right ?

It depends... I don't know the situation surrounding this particular case. It could be a player or it could be a GM.

Regardless though... if a person feels comfortable enough not to need assistance, then all they need to say to the person offering is they would like to try it on they're own. :lol: That person in turn should respect that decision.

Having an option to shut off PMs would be a good idea. I agree PMs can be annoying, especially when you're really into a sim...or you're in the middle of typing something and a big window pops up on your screen without warning.

I don't think that's necessarily a good idea. Sometimes GMs do need to send a message to an individual player and that message wouldn't go through if the player's PMs were off.

But...branching off of that...I think a PM notify system would be helpful. With AIM, or other instant messaging services, the window of the IM begins to blink on the toolbar when a person has responded. I think that this would be helpful for GMs and players alike.

One last comment about the original topic: :lol:

It is common practice in advanced simulations for players to sometimes be in constant communication with each other, discussing the current plot and what action might best serve the plot. This might be a dose of what you encountered.

::drifts away::

That'll be great, I tend to forget pms :lol:
