An Engineering Post

Here are a few sites that deal with what some call Treknology. There's also one here that I found really interesting done by someone at NASA that explores the future of real life technology as it pertains to the vision created by Gene Rodenberry. Not a reference site but still fascinating. If anyone has really good reference sites or other technobabble based sites that I might not have I'd love to see them!

Hey there,

From an engineering perspective, while I must say I do sincerely love the DITL, if you want to be good at it...you have to go out and buy books. You only really need two, perhaps three. That would be Mr. Scott's Guide To The Enterprise (which gives an excellent summary of the engineeing foundation), Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual (if you actually read it, you can technobable anyone. Mine is so worn and marked up I may have to get a new one soon..) and finally perhaps the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual which does have some solid qualities.

All three excellent books, I highly reccommend them as well. I have the same problem with my copy of the tech manual. I bought it when it first came out and now it's horribly rabbit eared, marked up and tattered. I still love it though.

I've always said, online sites are great for one touch easy referencing but, to truly appreciate and understand a topic books are still the only way to go.

Are there any good reference works on Klingon ships out there?

The only hard copy texts I know of deal with the Klingon language. Those being Everyday Klingon Quotes, Hamlet, The Klingon/English Dictionary and, Conversational Klingon. I've never found a book that dealt solely with Klingon technology but, the Daystrom Institute site does have a decent section on Klingon vessels. Hope that helps! :P

Yes, Ditl is an excelent site. I think Fred pointed me to it when I was doing some reasearch for the Reaent.

Startrek.nl is also an ok site. But what really shines is their info on planet classes. Im pretty sure it was Ridire, or Fred that pointed me there when I needed to make the Minnow Solar system for the Reaent.

As an Engineer, myself I do look to sites like DITL and Star Trek.com if I need some kinda research on something. Ex Astris Scientia is also a good site to check out as well. It helped me out a few times and there's a lot of cool pictures and stuff there. :P

Ummmmm, I have to spend money to be a good engenier? Hmmm, maybe someone should make one of these posts about security. Atleast that won't recquire me to read books. All I'd have to do is shoot people.
