Rocky Mountain High, Part II

"Rocky Mountain High", Part II

Log entry 07A SD: 10407.21

"And at his prow the pilot held within his hands his freight of lives, eyes wide open full of moonlight"

- Night Flight,

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

The sun shone a brilliant array of colours down on Koga as if bidding him a farewell for the day. Koga smiled as he looked at the sun setting over the mountain tops. After his little dinner, Koga scouted the forest around him for locations to spend the night. Koga started to shiver as the tempurature started to drop. It gets cold at night in the mountains, and it was rather essential that Koga finds someplace warm to spend the night.

With what little light remains, Koga finds a small cave that just might fill his needs. Koga cautiously enters the cave, keeping his hand on his trusty kaleh safely in its sheath on his waist. He looked aroud, being especially cautious, just in case some other animal has already claimed residency in here. Other than a few badgers, that Koga sucesfully shoo'ed away, the cave was empty.

The cave was just high enough that Koga could safely stand up without hitting his head, and the small enclosed area of the cave should really radiate the warmth of a fire. Satisfied, that this place meets his needs, Koga walks out to the woods to look for branches. By now, the sun has already set, leaving Koga basked in the white light of the full moon high above him.

Koga walked to his main campsite, and grabbed a stick. He reached into his bag, and ripped off a small piece of his parachute tying it around the stick. Koga then proceeded to light it on the fire he made earlier, making a make shift torch. Koga then gathered up some bark and conifer tree boughs to use as a bedding in his cave.

Upon doing so, Koga takes out his parachute from his pack and ties a large piece of it to the tree, breaking off the branches for extra protection against the mountain elements, making sure the location is safe from flash floods, avalanches and rockslides.

Extinguishing his fire, at his main camp site, Koga enters his cave, and makes a smaller one inside the cave, using his torch. Soon, Koga basks in the warmth of his fire. Koga uses the large remaining piece of his parachute as a blanket to give himself warmth through the night. The parachute was showing signs of decompisisition, and no longer safe to use as a parachute again, but it was still good to use as a blanket.

Koga laid there in the cave, listening to the crickets and the crackling of his fire. With the bringing of the night, a whole new world seemed to take a life of its own in the valley. Koga tried to get to sleep, but found it hard to do so, given the particulars of the mission. He didn't know yet, if t'Phishore was out looking for him yet, and every noise made him feel uneasy.

Something about the feeling of being watched has a certain freakish quality about that, that can be explained. Koga reaches in his bag and eats some of the remaining rabbit meat inside. With what he caught, Koga should have enough provisions to last him about 5 days, or so. With his stomach full, Koga closes his bag, and tries to get to sleep.

It's been a long day, and Koga still has a long, long way to go to get to the extraction point. He'll need all the sleep he can get. Koga soon settled into is makeshift bed, and fell into a deep sleep..

Koga found himself in the forest. It was dark and he was all alone. He heard a soft rustling sound from above, and Koga looked up at a rather big eagle perched at a tree above him. The majestic bald eagle looked down at Koga, and flew off the tree. The eagle seemed to be beconning Koga to follow it.

Koga ran as fast as he could, following the eagle wherever it would take him. The deeper Koga went, the darker and more desolate the forest looked.. straight out of the dark, scary forest scenes of the ancient Lloahn'na 20th century Disney films of the time. The eagle continued to coast high above him as he got deeper and deeper in the forest.

Finally though, the eagle began to slow down, and hover at a spot just behind a cluster of trees. The eagle cried out at Koga, looking him straight in the eye. Koga ran though the trees, and tried to look for the eagle. However, as hard as he looked, Koga couldn't find it anymore. "Where did au go?" Koga called out to the eagle. "Hey!" An eerie silence was the only thing that answered him.

A cold chill went up Koga's spine. He had a bad feeling about this. Koga heard a soft rustling coming from the trees nearby. It must be the eagle. Koga thought to himself. He waited for the eagle to emerge, but it never came. Instead, Koga heard a loud thumping sound nearby, and getting rather closer.

Thump! Thump! Thump! The sound was getting louder, and clsoer with every step. Fear and panic started to fill Koga's body. Koga frantically searched for his trusty kaleh. But.. it wasn't there! "Na.. my kaleh? Where is it?" Koga said. With na kaleh, Koga had na way to defend himself. Koga put up his fists, waiting for whatever to show up.

He wasn't a prize fighter for nothing. But the mysterious sound was getting closer, Koga could actually see the tree nearby shaking and a dark, shadowy figure approaching. "Who's out there?" Koga said. He tried to act tough, but inside he was starting to panic. What could be coming after him? Certainly was no eagle.

With a loud crack, the mysterious figure emerged. It was a huge bear, standing about 12 feet high. It looked down on Koga with a stare of utter comtempt and evil. This was na ordinary bear. The bear's eyes were locked to Koga's, and glowed a bright red colour. It's teeth were probably as long as kaleh blades, and just as sharp. They were also covered in blood.

The bear let out a near deafening roar, and charged after Koga. With na way of defending himself against this big beast, Koga ran as fast as he could. But the bear's powerful legs propelled it towards Koga gaining speed with every stride. Koga ran deep, deep into the forest into some unknown part. The bear had Koga cornered.

The bear now slowly inched towards Koga as if mocking him. Koga slowly tried to step back, but got as far as he can go at the edge of a cliff. Koga could hear a pebble drop as it fell down the steep embankment. Koga looked back, down at the cliff. It was very high up, Koga can see the trees lind up below him, looking as small as toothpicks.

The bear licked its lips, and blood dripped down his mouth. With a sudden burst of energy the bear charged Koga. Koga stepped back, but in the process fell off the cliff. Koga screamed as he made his fast plummet to the earth below...

"AHHHH!" Koga woke up in a cold sweat breathing hard and laboured. He looked around his surroundings.

Once again, Koga was in his cave. The light of the moon filling the cave with a luminiscent white light. Koga took a drink of water to calm himself down. What a dream. Koga thought. I wonder what it could mean? The hooting of an owl outside got his attention. Koga shrugged, and tried to remain calm and collected. IT stilllate and Koga tried to get back to sleep again. But, that wierd dream comtinued to be in his mind. What could it mean? Maybe Koga wil find out soon, but.. he sure has a bad feeling about it.
