J'cin - Duty Log

J'cin sat at his desk on the Excalibur going over some reports as the ship completed what was to be its last patrol before the rest of the first fleet - Gamma Quadrant arrived. There had been no further incident, and the dominion ships patrolled the systems around them, leaving after a brief hello from Semil. Well, more like a "can't you keep out of trouble for one second" from Semil, but that was pretty typical. Now J'cin had time to take care of some issues that had cropped up recently.

The first thing that he found was no less than 12 reports from science, engineering, astrophysics, and xenobotany (for some unknown reason) with each of the planets named different things, ranging from references to Shakespeare from Xavier in engineering, to the names of Roman gods from science, to characters from 20th century Disney cartoons (Neo HAD to be kidding... he hoped). He had cross checked with each report, and yes, so far, the only official names on record were that of the two companion stars (Avalon and Tintigrel) and the M-class planet in the Avalon system (known as Avalon as well). He sent a gentle reminder to all departments reminding them of Starfleet's request for any suggestions of names to be filed with the fleet commander (Wayne) or the ship captain, and that the announcement would be made in short order, but it had to be made official, and communication with SFHQ took time. They were, after all, tens of thousands of lightyears away.

He tried not to dwell on that for too long. God forbid the wormhole close, but if it did, immortal though he may be, he did NOT look forward to that flight home. Leave that mess to Admiral Janeway, and that would be all, thank you.

Then came abit of strange messages. One from an anonymous person on the ship, cautioning him to "watch his back." Since he got those at least once a month, he put it in his "I don't care" folder. The other was more disturbing. Ever since Section 31 had been routed months before, their information, secret though they thought it was, often found its way across his desk, especially when it involved the 120 or so of his kind that were left in the galaxy. It was a carefully worded message, with a simple point.

Another immortal is slain. You have a killer on board. Trust none who claim to know the truth of this matter.

J'cin snorted. He didn't know who this tipster thought he was fooling, but he knew of the slaying, and knew without a doubt who had committed it. He'd dealt in death long enough to know. But the slain was not only a criminal, but an unrepentant murderer. Starfleet didn't care. Now, when the rest of the fleet arrived, he knew there would be at least one more of his kind. A trusted officer of the fleet. His own blade, he could track. Briana would not raise her hand in the Game were it not a matter of self defense, and even then he questioned. That left only one possibility. So if a contest were fought, and a quickening claimed, he would have justice. Starfleet's brand, or the type of his kind.

His sword hand flexed only a moment, until his comm system chirped to life. The fleet had arrived. It was finally Tuesday.

"This is Captain Kristopher J'cin - USS Excalibur. Welcome to Avalon system, and Camelot Station. Please transmit ship designations and identify yourselves over secure communications."

He tapped the screen, and brought up the small group of ships, flying in escort formation. Two nebula cruisers in the middle, flanked by a triangle of Intrepid-class ships, with 2 Akira at point and rear, and a Defiant class in the center of them all.

Comm systems chirped to life, and the fleet control center displays came up around him, as the registry information and vital statistics of each ship in the fleet appeared. On a panel in front of him, the face of the blonde captain of the lead Nebula-class cruiser, and his fleet Executive officer, came on the screen.

"This is Captain Virginia Evan, USS Stargazer - A" her voice was abit too chipper for J'cin's taste. He hoped she wasn't too obnoxious. "Gamma Quadrant first fleet reporting for duty, commodore."

"That's Captain, actually. The fleet is commanded by Admiral Day."

"Then why would we report to you?" She smiled winningly.

"Because.... just... Excalibur acknowledges your arrival and welcomes you to the Gamma Quadrant. Docking rings are still under construction at the station, so please take orbit to receive your orders."

"Aye, commodore" She smirked, and closed the channel.

J'cin just grumbled.
