Science Department Report 030205

Sivuk of Vulcan

USS Reaent NCC 3345G

Commander Ridire's Report to Captain Michaels:

After the storm prevented the away team from leaving, we decided to explore the facility more fully, but decided to try to return to the ship because there was trace evidence of possible biocontamination.  We found the power generator room and the computer lab.  While Lt Shamor and Ensign Vanroy tried to get the generators and the computers operable, Mr. Kroells explored some of the lower levels.  After a short while he reported that he had found a cryo unit.  Against standard policy and my orders he activated its wake-up sequences.  He finally listened to my repeated order to leave the room and he returned to the away team's location.  By that time Lieutenant Shamor had accessed the computers and Mr. Vanroy had managed to repower the shuttle after using its power to activate the generators.

Sivuk's findings:

Biological material found on the exterior of the shuttle is a gelatinous substance that replicates itself.  A forcefield was erected to prevent the spread from the science laboratory (where the specimens are stored and are growing) to other parts of the ship.

Concerning the source of sensor interference, there is the possibility that the source is entirely natural.  That would explain the tritoriam shielding.  Perhaps the Romulans realized the danger in the interference and erected the shielding for that reason.

Goad's findings:

Another storm formed on the opposite side of the planet from the station The ship moved into geosynchronous orbit over the new storm to facilitate the gathering of data.  An energy beam, visible to sensors within 5 km, was detected going into the developing storm, but the power frequency of the beam was undetectable and the source could not be pinpointed; it appeared to be randomly occurring.  The storm mysteriously dissipated.

Information from the probe indicated that the storms on the surface are artificial creations.

Sensors confirmed that the storms are moving in a pattern that seems to be connected to the Romulan outpost's computer system.

Travis Kroells:

Is stable but unconscious in sick bay.  Diagnosis: Andronesian Encephalitis
